My mother-in-law had cancer treatment and was given the all clear.?
|
She had surgery and chemotherapy and was given the all clear. A month later we're told she has a mass the size of a small football in her stomach (she had the surgery on her stomach in May) and that she is terminal.
Is thispossible? A tumour this size to grow in a month? Additional Details Thank you. There was talk by her oncologist of negligence on the part of her previous doctor, which is why I asked the question.
Pington, I thank you . I hope you're doing ok - this is frightening. We're devestated and so I can only imagine how you're feeling.
And strangely enough - I don't think it is a laugh. And we're doing our best for my mother-in-law.

Yes. My 17 year old son had a physical in December so that he could play basketball and was given a clean bill of health. Two months later he was diagnosed with stage IV abdominal cancer, with one tumor the size of a volley ball, tumors in spleen, small and large intestine, lungs, chest wall, Diaphragm, lympth nodes and malignant ascitis (the tumors had seeded).
He has been fighting for over 18 months, and doing quite well. He was in remission for 8 months but recently more cancer has shown up.
So, the answer, unfortunately is yes . . an aggressive cancer (especially sarcoma) can grow and spred in 28 days. Good luck to you.

Sadly yes, cancer is an unpredicatable disease and there are never any guarantees. My father had colon cancer 6 years ago, got the all clear 4 months ago finally and within 2 weeks we discovered it was back, not just in his liver but also his lung. He is terminal and has little time left.
I am sorry for your distress at this time, and wish you and your family well. I hope the outlook is better in your case.

Yes, I'm afraid that tumours can grow very rapidly, expanding at a great rate every day. They dont always behave that way, but it can happen - that's why cancer treatments tend to be started so quickly and why, when affected by cancer, you have check ups so regularly. <from my personal experience I went from a stage 0 to a stage 2 cancer in under 8 weeks>
I am so sorry for you and your family.

Yes a highly malignant cancer or lymphoma could grow that fast. An all clear only means no cancer is seen just then.
