dead serious. It can be fatal, but is also treatable, depending on how early it is detected.

Stomach cancer is very very serious. Not only can it spread if left untreated systemically (to the whole body), but a person cannot live very easily without a stomach. If the stomach was so compromised that it had to be removed you would have to live with hose that leads into your intestines for nutrient absorption for the rest of your life, and never enjoy eating food again.

It is serious, but it is not untreatable. One of the bad things about stomach cancer is it can spread easily to other organs. However, there are more than one type, and depending on the type, it can have a huge impact on the course of treatment and the mortality rate. If you know someone with it, you really should talk to that person (or a person close to them) about what is happening. You might discover things aren't as bad as they seem. Whatever you do, don't depend solely on the Internet for your source of info. Everyone goes through treatment in their own way.

Pink Jasmine doesn't know the facts. I had my stomach and spleen completely removed four years ago. I lost a lot of weight but I can eat a variety of foods, being careful to eat several small meals throughout the day. I only had a stomach tube for a few weeks after surgery, then I could start to eat. My esophagus has been connected to the top of my intestines. Digestion is different now, but the body has amazing redundant capabilities.
Stomach cancer can be deadly. I had a 50/50 chance of survival, and now I have a secondary cancer of the liver. You have to have a medical team you trust and you need to be proactive. Don't be deterred by lack of insurance. I am on SSI with Medicaid and I've received excellent care.
