Che jrw	I've been prescribed Imitrex, but I don't find that it works very well. Personally, the best solution I have found is: 600 mg of Ibuprofen (3 normal sized tablets) plus 2 "Tylenol #1" tablets - available over the counter, they contain Codiene, which is a narcotic painkiller. Monique M	Excederin Migraine works best for my friends who are migrane sufferers. Also, Benedryl works for some people as it opens up the blood vessels in your brain. makeitright	The ones that need a prescription. Migraines are different than regular headaches. If you know you have migraines, go to a neurologist or your family physician. There are several meds that you use under your tongue to immediately relieve the pain of migraines. The over the counter meds will only help some, depending on what type of migraine you have. Most people with migraines will experience auras like only seeing part of a license plate, and then they will develop little mosaic patterns and then the big headache. Consult your doctor, please. I have migraines and I know this for a fact. Some over the counter medications contain caffeine, like Excedrin, which only made me nervous and did not relieve my headache. I had to go to a doctor to find out the cause. You may be given a medication to prevent the migraines such as Inderal (remain on it a short time). Good meds for migraines are Maxalt. Imitrex. Sneha	-Keep a note for few weeks during an attack to find out any possible contributory factors and try to avoid those things. Foods such as red wine, chocolate, and cheese are common triggers. Too much caffeine or cutting back suddenly on your regular intake can cause migraine. -If possible, lie down in a dark, quiet room with pillows to support head. Try to sleep. gringa	Drink alot of water. (at least 8-10 big glasses per day!) It is amazing how dehydrated most people are...this can cause a bad headache. Also, be sure that you are moving your bowels after you have a meal. Constipation can cause headaches--(your body just reabsorbs the toxins it is trying to eliminate) Are you eating food that are processed or with color additives or preservatives? karmaluna	as a natural therapist i would recommend a few alternate remedy's; try lying down in a dark quiet room, rub tiger balm on your temples & presure points around your neck ,try to make sure you drink plenty of water,see a eye specialist if you need glasses & maybe even see a chiropracter maybe you have a knot or a disk out!
