Pinched nerve is really an antiquated term. It does happen but makes up a very small percentage of musculoskeletal complaints. Depending on your actual presentation and symptoms a doctor can tell you if massage will help. Generally speaking a massage will relax muscles but you will probably wake up the next day with the problem returning. Many Chiropractic Physicians will utilize massage therapists in there offices. He/she will be able to diagnose the problem you are facing and let you know if massage will help.

i think accupuncture is a better alternative. massaging the area especially if too much pressure is applied, might make it hurt more.

I was a massage therapist for 4 years... I don't believe that it will help with the nerve that is pinched... It will however help to keep the muscles relaxed around the affected area... There are alot of beneficial reasons to have a massage... And their is new evidence that massage can be very therapeutic for many muscle problems.. Make sure you see a reputable therapist... check references... and check with your insurance company... Many now see the value of massage and are willing to pay for it...Good Luck to you.....

in your case, massage will relax the tissues surrounding the impingement, but it will not relieve the nerve itself from the pressure. when the muscles around the nerve relax, you will certainly feel some relief, and that's the best time to see your chiropractor.
when a nerve is pinched, think of it as a plastic drinking straw. you pinch it, it doesn't spring back to normal right away. it takes time. relaxing the muscles around it will help the affected area prepare itself for further treatment, including the chiropractics.
