physical is caused by Meissener's and Panacian corpuscles and free nerve endings. also, when you damage any nerve you feel pain.

psychological... i'm still tryin to figure that one out.

Part of these answers are correct, others not so...there are times when it is necessary to move something when there is pain involved. Arthritic joints are a prime example.. without moving those joints, there is more accumulation of crystalline substances to eventually freeze the joint.. Movement will allow them to be resorbed..even if motion is painful.

Another is spurring... the actual calcification of tendons and ligaments... is one reason someone with degenerative arthritis of the spine will find symptoms diminish, when they become active. Even though some movements remain restricted.

Physical because we are in the wrong place at the wrong time
Psychological because 'no pain, no gain'

Maybe if the suffering in the world was evenly distributed there would be less pain for some and more for others but at least everyone would understand one another.

People that have limbs amputated still feel 'pain' in those limbs many years after the limb was lost. Maybe pain is more than just a biochemical reaction.

I believe physical pain informs us that something somewhere is wrong with our body. For example we can not see within our body in order to know if something is wrong- pain is a warning sign for us to deal with something quickly. It also reminds us of the limits to physical endurance of our body and not to go beyond something that is beyond our capabilities. It is also a serious reminder that we are vulnerable in life- it saves our lives by making us aware of our limitations.

Psychological pain is there in order that we can relate to each other as humans in a civilize way- if we didn't have that we would be extremely cruel to one and another I would think.

Pain, generally signals you that something is not right. For the most part it is a good thing as we generally try to figure out what the cause of it is. Some people actually do not feel pain before a problem reaches some major point.

I believe we experience pain in order to alert the body against danger.
Imagine your hand is on a hot stove, but you feel no pain. One cooked hand.
I'll let you work out the rest.
Sadly, there are some people who do not have a pain barrier, so never know when they are hurt. Thankfully, it is a rare complaint.

Pain intensifies our nerves wherever we hurt so we're reminded to leave it alone so it can heal. If you disregard this you can hurt it more and possibly do irreversible damage to it.

It might sound like that explanation only applies to physical pain, but psychological pain works the same way. If you're attacked by a bear, and afterward you have a hard time looking at bears, that's your mind imprinting that image in your head as bad, and if you stay away from it, and when you see that image you feel pain. If you stay away from that image, especially if you stay away from bears in general, you won't feel that pain.

It's a warning system. It's like a red flag we can feel.
