Fizzy drinks like lemonade, coca cola, any of that kind of stuff as it makes you burp and so helps get rid of the wind that is trapped causing you the discomfort. Peppermint cordial my Dad used to take. I just take remegels they are good, but you can't take them with certain medications, so you have to watch. Is Barcarbonate of soda not one too? Think so, but the fizzy juice is nice and quick.

No one has mentioned the best remedy in the world for me - New Era Biochemic Tissue Salts No. 10, Nat Phos (Sodium Phosphate). A tub of these tiny moulded tablets (450 tabs in a tub) can be bought from any health store or Holland & Barratt stock them. They are safe even for babies and animals. Just be sure that you are not allergic to lactose (milk sugar contained in milk). They dissolve on the tongue, and I am usually better after the first dose, which is 4 tabs dissolved on the tongue or swallowed with water. I keep a tub by the bed and one in my drawer at work. They do work almost immediately. I can highly recommend them and particularly because they are safe and natural. Taking Bicarbonate of Soda regularly is not good for you and antacids can cause other health problems because some of these contain alluminium. You need to look at your diet - reduce fats and sugars and eat more vegetables but be careful of acid fruits such as oranges. It sounds to me as if you may also have an intollerance to bananas - the high pottassium content doesn't agree with everbody. Hope this helps!

Believe it or not, heartburn is often caused by not enough stomach acid (the acid in the stomach actually signals the esophagus to close, so when there isn't enough the esophagus stays open and the contents of the stomach come back up causing the pain).
There is a very quick test to find out..... when heartburn occurs take a tablespoon of vinegar (any kind will do... apple cider vinegar tastes better than most). If your problem is not enough stomach acid you will instantly feel better. If that turns out to be the case, vinegar will always help, but you can also take supplements to help increase the amount of stomach acid so you can avoid the heartburn all together. If you visit a health food store they can recommend several things such as Betaine HCL, natural enzymes, herbal bitters, and papaya tablets.
I would also recommend that you avoid antacids if at all possible. Stomach acid is essential to digestion and anything that eliminates the acid is going to lead to undigested food getting into the system which can cause many other problems like irritable bowel syndrome, leaky gut syndrome, and even arthritis. It is always better to work with the natural functioning of the body rather than against it.

Beet powder mixed in water (from local store) worked great for me. It doesn't taste as bad as you'd think.
Also, eat very lightly like lots of fruits and veggies for a couple days. Many times if too much food is in the stomach, the pressure will push digestive juices back up your esophagus which is the heartburn feeling. If this happens a lot, the valve that holds the digestive juices down will get weak. So again, eat light and healthy so it can get stronger by itself.
If you want to get stronger quicker, drink fresh veggie juice like carrot, 1/4 beet, Celery and maybe 1/2 an apple. This juice is strengthening and very alkaline.
Good Luck

Well i've suffered from heartburn for years and didnt find a home cure. Eventually had to have prescribed medicine but hey!! - I'm gonna try the vinegar suggestion - my mother took cider vinegar every day and I cant remember her once complaining of stomach problems! Maybe you should give it a whirl too and then we can compare notes.

Have you tried apply cider vinegar? This is the best naturopathic way to alleviate heart burn. Also, if you are having heart burn, try drinking orange juice. Yes, its acidic initially but when it goes into your system it becomes basic and neutralizes your acid reflux. Give that a try. Hope it helps!

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and i have a lot of patients with this. Ginger is great for all digestive problems you can get it in crystallised form,Ginger wine and capsules. But you must find the cause you could be on a bad diet, IBS or an ulcer. Go and get it checked out. You can also take Fennel or Chamomile tea. Health shop stores all of these. Do not take any indigestion remedies they will make the condition worse and even cause heartburn

The stomach normally secretes acid that is essential in the digestive process. This acid helps in breaking down the food during digestion. When there is excess production of acid by the gastric glands of the stomach, it results in the condition known as acidity. Dyspepsia, heartburn and the formation of ulcers are some of the symptoms. It is more common in highly emotional and nervous individuals.
Common Causes of Acidity
·Consumption of Alcohol
·Highly spicy foodstuffs
·Non-vegetarian diets
·Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID's)
Most acidity problems occur
1. After meals
2. When lifting weight or straining and applying pressure in the intra-abdominal area.
3. At night when lying down
Ulcers also occur as a result of over secretion of acid.
*The juice from the aloe vera plant is another natural home remedy that is used to soothe an irritated esophagus. Although there isn’t any scientific evidence that it might help, aloe vera juice has a long history of use in Europe as a natural home remedy to relive heartburn.
Typically, approximately 1/4 cup of aloe vera juice is taken (by adults) approximately 20 minutes before a meal.
The aloe vera should not contain any aloe latex, aloin, or aloe-emoin compounds, substances in the aloe plant that are very powerful laxatives. Aloe gel should not be taken directly from the plant as a home remedy, as the gel can be contaminated with the latex. Only gel or juice preparations specifically for internal use should be used.
* Almonds are also a good source for relieving the heartburn and acidity. Eat several almonds when heartburn symptoms persist.
* Lemons also help to prevent heartburn. Cut a lemon into thin strips and dip in salt. Eat before meals to prevent heartburn.
* Take some mint leaves and chop these and then boil in a cup of water and sip slowly after meals. If a person drinks Fresh mint juice every day he will never experience acidity.
* Jaggery or gur taken after every meal also helps to reduce the acidity. Keep a piece of gur in the mouth and slowly suck it till acidity decreases.
* Eating bananas is also helpful in preventing the symptoms of acidity and heartburn. To prevent acidity it is advised to eat a banana daily.
* A mixture of 2 tsp of natural apple cider vinegar and 2 tsp raw honey in a glass of water before meals fights with acidity.
* Basil (tulsi) leaves helps to get relief from burning, nausea and gas. Chew some leaves of tulsi to decrease the acidity.
* Coconut water 4-5 times a day decreases the symptoms of the acidity and the heartburn.
* Harad (Terminalia chebula) if taken after every meal prevents the symptoms of the acidity.
* 1 tsp juice of chebulic myroblan mixed with 1 tsp of amla (Indian gooseberry) juice helps to prevent acidity and heartburn.
* Boil one cup of water. To this add 1 tsp of Aniseed (Saunf). Cover and leave overnight. Strain the water in the morning, add 1 tsp of honey. When this is taken 3 times a day it prevents acidity.
* To 1 ½ liters of water add 1 tsp Caraway seeds (shah jeera). Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Sip while warm. Take this liquid 2-3 times a day for 5-6 days. It will decrease the acidity.
* Take a glass of water, add a pinch of baking soda and drink it. It gives immediate relief from acidity.
* Take a glass of warm water, add a pinch of hing (Asafoetida) and have it every morning to prevent acidity.
* Never smoke before or while eating. Smoking often causes one to swallow small amounts of air, which form air pockets in the digestive tract with the added pressure of food.
* Go for a small walk after eating, which will help stimulate the digestive system.
* Refrain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, over-the-counter pain relievers, and other stimulants.
* Increase more fibre in your diet. This will naturally helps to relieve the future suffering. Bulk foods help to absorb excess acid and gas, and allow your body to rid itself of toxins more quickly.
* Drink 8-10 glasses of water.
* Put a tablespoon of baking soda into a cup of water and mix it good then drink it.
* Keep 10-15 raisins in your mouth. Do not chew. Let them be there. Swallow the saliva secreted. Burning sensation will stop in about 5 minutes.
* Eat lots of raw broccoli to kill heartburn.
* Mix a little bit of salt and sugar on your hand and eat it.
* Take one teaspoon of mustard if you have heartburn or indigestion.
* Chewing bubble-gum also disappears the acidity. This is an easy and best way to get rid of Acidity.
* For heartburn drink a teaspoon of vinegar. It is because there is not sufficient acid in our stomach to digest food properly, thus gasses come back up and burn our stomach.
* Calcium also helps to fight with the heartburn and acidity. Yoghurt or ice-cream gives immediate relief from acidity and heartburn.
* After food maintain an upright posture to prevent the reflex and to prevent the symptoms of acidity.
* Sleep with your head and shoulder on a high pillow for elevation.
* Do not skip meals. Do not keep large gap between meals. This produces gas / wind.
* Eat dinner 2-3 hours before going to bed.

half a cup of cool/cold milk
heartburn is due to too much acid (enzymes..etc) in stomach, so anything alkaline would do to neutralize it ..
milk is a good choice. the person who mentiones fizzy drinks might be wrong, fizzy drinks are very acidic (carbonic) and will make you feel worse.

Heartburn usually results from excess acidity in the stomach, or from improper functioning of your digestive system.
At the point where the esophagus and stomach join, a special muscle opens and closes the esophagus. When we swallow food this muscle relaxes to let the food pass into the stomach after which it closes again.
But it can happen that the muscle malfunctions. The contents of the stomach then rise back up the esophagus, irritating the area. And this results in the infamous feeling of heartburn.
How to stop it? Avoid acidic foods (lemons, etc.), alcohol, fat or fried food, food that is overcooked, coffee, juice, tomato base products, and chocolate. But don’t deprive yourself too much. Rather, observe which foods bring on heartburn and avoid them. Also, don’t go to sleep right after eating (you should eat supper around 7 o’clock) and don’t smoke, especially after meals.
