Richard R	Nothing, other than to cool the smoke. Use a vaporizer if you are concerned about your health. It actually tastes better and you are not "smoking" as you are not actually setting fire to your herb. It is much safer than smoking. Bongs do not reduce THC. jennifer j	Well... If you have ever tryed to smoke out of one without the water its very harsh... and dry ... and you can get all the ash in your mouth! almost like a pipe would.... The water in it... Bubbles when you suck it in ... Building pressure... It pushes the smoke up and keeps the crap down in the water.. Like someone else on here said ... Its like a filter.... marty	The only purpose it could possibly have would be to cool the smoke... It can't function as a filtration device... someone at work was asking... right. By the way, Marijuana is no good as a method of pain management. It might work now, but later on in life with everyday use, it causes paranoia and psychoses. DON'T DO DRUGS!
