 I suffer from excruciating migraines, any ideas on how to stop them without resorting to pills?

When my husband and I can't sleep we'll usually throw a DVD in and watch that in bed, but the best sleep drug is sex. Whenever we can't sleep, a round of sex usually always does the trick for us. I don't know why, but it never fails.

try deep breathing, and progressive relaxation....Also making sure to get up at the same time each day, and go to bed at the same time each night if possible. Don't do other activities in bed like reading, or watching tv before bed....that helps me at least. good luck. occasionally a Tylenol PM helps.

I have this spray from bath and body works. Its calld Lavender vanilla aromatherapy. You spray it on your pillows and sheets and the smells completley relaxes you

Sex is a great way to promote sleep (I'm a guy).

I also take Melatonin, 3 mg. every night. It allows me to feel sleepy at bedtime and wake up in the morning. No feeling groggy or worn out. I take Now Brand, available at most health food stores.

Sleep is so important!!

I also got tested for sleep apnea; I now use a cpap machine and I fall asleep so quickly now -- it's like being a little kid again! My head hits the pillow and I'm asleep!

Craig's List is great for cpap machines and eBay is great for nasal pillow breathing systems!

Background noise, Either a dvd or music not loud ofcourse just so u can hear it and nothing else...I can sleep alot better when there is a dvd going i think its because your concertrating on the sound. Ive heard a warn cup of milk & honey is good too.

Exercise during the day, don't drink caffeine before you sleep, wake up early, a warm glass of milk and a banana before bed, and reading an hour before sleep

i also found it hard. i learned that listening to music really helps. now, its almost impossible for me to fall asleep without listening to my ipod. when i dont have my ipod i turn on my computer and go on z100.com and listen to their online radio. its very relaxing and really helps. music works in amazing ways

Lavender oils or candles *if you are not alergic* as Lavender is a natural relaxent.
Getting candles for your room or a bit of oil to rub on your pillow, burn in dish or put on the pulse points of your neck normaly helps.

There are many things you can do to help you go to sleep without taking any medications:
1) Do not eat late into the night (past 8pm)
2) Do not have any caffeine after 6 pm (coffee, tea, chocolate, soda)
3) Do not use the bedroom for any work related activities.
4) Exercise in the afternoon or after diner.
5) If you can't go to sleep at night don't toss and turn, get up and walk around, do not watch TV.

Meditation...or if you have a good herbal doctor [I am blessed to have the best], he/she can make you some "sleepy time" tea. Not sure of everything that is in it, but I know it involves Chamomile, Kudzu and Lavender.
Try not to stimulate your body [excercise, stressful activities, etc.] for at least a few hours before bed. Take a hot shower or bath. Sip on some kind of tea, caffine free of course, and then meditate. If you still cannot fall asleep, try reading. It tires your eyes out & makes it easier to fall asleep.
