Free will!!
if you go to a place where they aloud smoking why should you complain??? stay away from there if you don't like smoke, smell, itchy eyes, etc!!
And... go to a smoke free place!!

I live in the south , South and North Carolina, this land produces tobacco, it would be impossible to ban smoking!!

I think it should be the business's chose if they allow smoking or not. If a non smoker doesn't want to go there they don't have to. There should be clear signs that say if it is a smoking facility or not. Every time you turn around there are new restrictions on smoking and until it is entirely illegal I think the government should back off this one.

An,

I don't smoke - BUT - I believe that there should be the possibility of opening up a bar with the express purpose of admitting smokers. If you don't like the atmosphere, don't go in. If you are a waiter/waitress/bartender but don't like smoke then don't apply for work there. Many folks in this country don't like something and INSIST that other people dislike it also. Or they want you to at least acquiesce in banning certain things.

1) A bar opens up in your neighborhood offering strippers and lap dancers. Married men frequent the dump and engage in sexual acts with the employees. Smoking is worse than this?

2) A bar opens up and allows admitted, hard-core alcoholics to drink there, become wildly intoxicated and go back out on the street to harass folks or ram into their cars (and bodies). Smoking is worse than this?

These are but two examples of 'one person's poison' - -
I say do what you want as long as it's legal.

I believe the drinking should be banned. I mean how many accidents have you heard of people getting killed because of smokers. It's because of drunk drivers.

Smoking causes harm to the individual, Drinking causes harm to the individual and another person.

Second hand smoke, pleeeese that's the biggest load of bovine fecal matter I have heard. Come on, the times I've been around it well I just fan it away, turn my head the other way. But to leave a place and get hit by a drunk driver is my nighmare.

free country. if you dont like smoke in a bar leave the damn bar then no one is keeping you in there. find another bar to go to. the people who complain want their cake and want to eat it too. pretty soon are you going to let them tell you that you cant swear in public or use smokeless tobacco. the more you let them take away the more less free this country gets

I think it should be up to the individual businesses. Then everyone can have a choice whether they want to go there or work there for themselves. But in this free country of ours I don't think the goverment will let anyone have freedom of choice anymore.

I am a smoker but have to stop because of my health i do not agree with what the government are doing if they are banning you from smoking then they should ban them altogether how can they put them on sale & then say you can ony smoke them in the streets or your own home they are even trying to stop that if you have a carea comming into your home. i think it disgusting this is not a free country anymore, what did our fathers die for in 2 world wars for.
my husband & i went on hoilday last year in england he went to a toylet in that toylet it had no smoking every wear ,then he notice a box on the wall saying put your used needles in hear so that tells me its ok to inject your self but you cannot smoke
ITS SUPPOSE TO BE A FREE COUNTRY & you should be able to please your self wear you smoke public places should be able to do smokers & none smoking .

if people took heroin or tried to slit their wrists in public would people mind, of course but when people poison themselves with the drug Nicotine which is the WORLDS biggest killer we sit back and let the children watch and make them breathe in some Nicotine for good measure if thats not enough we can wear a patch or chew gum just so we get a little fix without people knowing,,face it smoking is a killer the biggest murderer on the street..i think it should be banned , don,t you

I live in Scotland and we have a total ban on smoking in public places, bars, restaurants, clubs etc. also on all forms of public transport including taxis. This week childminders have to be smoking free, also you will not be allowed to foster if you are a smoker.

I think its good, smoke related illnesses cost the taxpayer millions every year. I used to smoke many years ago and even people I know who smoke agree with the ban.

If you want to smoke, do it in your own home or car. After all its taking away everyone elses freedom of choice if smoking is allowed in public places.

To me smoking is a dirty habit, and all places should have at least a smoking area. It is really frustrating to go out and come home stinking of smoke, I don't smoke, my friends don't smoke so I do see why I should smell. I can't wait until July 1st!!!!

I smoke and i like the ban....Its been in effect in WNY for some time and there are no issues anymore. Its easy to adapt to, even when its cold and windy outside.

And fact is that smoke does stink and linger. Im more concious now of where im "blowing smoke". I dont think it should be around children in public. I had athletic indused asthma when i was in grade school....most likely from second hand smoke..There are some nice buildings in buffalo, when i dont smell like cigarettes its nice not to smell that stale smoke stench when i walk into somewhere, historic buildings have historic smells (strange to say but true).

And this "its a free country" garbage...the people who tell you its a free country make the laws that tell you what you can and cant do. So please define "free" before you go out flapping your flippity flaps.

if you think that this is a free americia then you are wrong ... first taking away smokers rights is the first act of making us just like all the third world countries where normal people do only what the govermnet tells them to do..living in fear if they break the rules.this country has forgotten what real freedom is about... i'm a smoker...if ya don't like it walk away...very far away....

I think they should ban alcohol, that's more damaging. And before you say only for the drinkers what about the fights damage to the drinkers liver which causes misery for them and familys. The drunken car drivers and accidents (minority) Noise polution, peeing in the streets, vomitting, stinky pubs where ale has been spilt etc etc etc. In fact I would say that drinking cost more to society health wise than smoking!! Days off work too! ps I both smoke and drink alcohol !

Smoking kills yourself - but second hand smoking kills OTHERS. Other people choose not to smoke, but have had to endure others smoking for years.

My mother-in-law was an English Professor at a college - guess what? She DIED from Second hand smoke - developing lung cancer that became very agressive - she lived only 6 months after being diognosed.

Yeah - ban the hell out of smoking in public. Don't say that we (non-smokers) can eat elsewhere, smokers can - because I've been there and done that, and having a "designated smoking area" doesn't work either.

The only thumbs down I will get are from the smokers who don't want to be pushed out of the public areas and are tired of being frowned at while smoking outside of the restuarants as others walk in - you know who you are. Smoke your life away in private - we don't want to watch you die and we sure don't want you killing us!

I think that places that serve food should ban smoking but that normal pubs and bars should be given the choice.
I live in Wales and i am a smoker, we have had the smoking ban in for a few months now and i do find it nicer to sit and have a meal not surrounded by smoke.
The only problem i have come up with, is the smells the smoke used to cover up. Some friends and i went out for a drink and we could smell the toilets from the other end of the pub, not nice!!!!

In Alberta Canada they have made a major crackdown on it. Cannot smoke in public places. Since its cold everyone has to stand in the cold and wind to smoke and it is still irritating as they stand right next to the doors we all have to go in and out of! They are thinking of banning it even there! Only place left will be in their own houses! I say wonderful but why not get rid of the stinking things altogether, as the ones smoking in their houses are blowing it in the direction of their innocent children!!

I live in Ireland where smoking is banned in public places, its a pleasure to be able to enjoy a meal or drink without smoke.
FOOTNOTE The bars stink of urine from the toilets, the smell used to be masked by the tobacco smoke.

Selfish, anti-social, odorous and disgusting. If people choose to inhale injurious carcinogenic chemicals into their own lungs that's up to them but they shouldn't be able to inflict it on anyone else in public places.

smokers should take their *** outside of the bar to light up. while it is a free country, i dont feel non-smokers should have put up w/ 2nd hand smoke. as a non-smoker i used to hate coming home form the bar stinking like dirty cigs. i'm glad that things are being done to protect non-smokers such as preventing parents from smoking while in the car w/ children & making restuarants smoke free. plus-i really enjoy watching smokers go outside in the freezing winter trying to light up

I live in Ohio, where we have a public smoking ban. I think it's one of the best things that has ever happened. I used to hate the stench and itchy eyes that I'd get whenever I went to a club or bar. The majority voted for it and I think it's wonderful.

It's being banned whether you like it or not so it's a little late for a debate about it now. Personally I think it's a good thing, smoking is awful, I stopped last year after reading Allen Carrs Easyway to Stop smoking

I agree to the smoking ban, i dont think it is fair to expect people to breath in smoke from others. its not as simple as going somewhere else as at the moment people can smoke nearly everywhere. Roll on the 1st of July!

Its been banned here in Ireland for about 4 years now, and I remember the last time I was in the UK someone just lit up in front of me and I was shocked. Its funny how quickly you get used to something. A lot of people don't smoke in their own homes any more, I regularly see my neighbour out having his ciggie at the front door, and he's not alone. In a few years you'll wonder how you ever put up with it for so long
