I like to breath a little bottled oxygen. Don't expect to stay awake if you only slept 5 hours the night before. So sleep 9 hours the night before.

things like coffee and other caffeine drinks will give you a little boost but then you can seem more sleepy than you were before. I would suggest moving around. do some excises and it should wake you up.

If at all possible take a 15 minute nap. That helps out a lot... no longer though, or you will feel groggy.
Take a brisk 15 minute walk (preferably outside) and drink water.

Eating healthy gives the body energy, exercise does too. If you're talkin substances though, there's all kinds of energy drinks and energy supplements to take. Vitamins help too.

Well your body really needs to sleep, so I don't think that you'd be able to stay away without some strong, black and bold coffee. Don't drink too much, though. If you drink like 10 cups or something, you could die.

Physical activity to get the blood and adrenaline moving. Caffeine just makes you crash eventually and doesn't affect everyone (doesn't do anything for me in normal doses like coffee or soda). Get more rest when you don't HAVE to be awake so you aren't as tired later.
