I've heard the sugar one. A doctor in NJ had a write up in a medical journal about using this treatment to treat hiccups in post-op patients.

sounds crazy but it works!!

Hold a pencil {{SIDE WAYS of course}} in your teeth, bite slightly and while holding it, slowly drink some water.
Waorks everytime!

Incase I should specify... the pencil is full length, held in your teeth, NOT INSIDE YOUR MOUTH. When your bite and drink the water, the pencil should put a little pressure on the corners of your lips. The way your throat has to move in order to swallow, releases air and cause something (don't know what) to move.... stopping the hiccups!

hold you breath for 30 secs and then swallow 3 times one after the other and then breathe. works evrytime for me
