Trying to find a primary care doc who encourages diet and nutrition over pharmeseuticals?
|
Any idea how I can find a doc like this locally (like a site that lists primary care doctors who are more focused on diet and nutrition?)
Thanks. Additional Details
For the answer of, "Sometimes you really need to cure what ails you with a pill"...
That's the medical attitude I'm actually trying to avoid. What I want to find is, "a pill should be the last resort for what ails you."

I can't help you on locating such a doctor, but I can tell you that it's going to be difficult.
I used to be a practicing medical doctor... Well, unlicensed. I suppose that's why there was a threat to sue and raid, and I quit immediately.
Nutrition is the single most important thing you can focus on for great health. Don't believe anything less. There has been more positive and definite proof of real diet effects than anything else.
Diet: Makes or breaks the body.
Drugs: Useful for keeping you running if you're on the brink of death or in a life threatening situation; Think 105 degree fever.
Surgery: I have nothing against it whatsoever, but it's highly over-recommended.
If you can't find a local doctor, please do research for yourself health and wellness. Make sure to remember that the number one lifesaving medication you can ever have is natural food.
Fresh fruit provides necessary energy. (and much more)
Fresh vegetables provide your natural building blocks. (and much more)
Everything else is for convenience or taste.
Don't fall into the torrent of idiocy that the every day medical doctor spews! ; ) Good luck.

Why don't you try some nutritional supplementation? You may find a better overall health - I avoid doctors at all cost. They are great for stitches and broken bones, but they want to over treat with chemicals.
I can recommend a good liquid Vitamin And Mineral supplement as at starting point, if you write.

Well, not knowing where you live, it's hard to recommend a "local" physician, but look up ayurvedic medicine in your area, and see what you can find.

Research your local phone directory for a list of health food stores, call a few and ask for some referrals with good standing, interview each of them and remember to work with the one you have a good feeling about, trust your own instincts, they should appreciate you as an individual and as a client, after all you are the paying customer. Doctors maybe more educated in the medical field, but have merely and simply forgotten who it is who signs their pay check...we the people and shame on us for tolerating their behavior and letting them get away with it-after all they are all just practicing on us right-and we pay them for it-think about that. I got a little side tracted, I hope this helps you and others out there in cyber land. Happy hunting! Sincerely, OneDreamCaster

Good luck: Out of 126 medical schools in the US, 7 offer an optional course in nutrition.
Probably your best bet is to work with your doctor for diagnosis and disease treatment and then find another professional who specializes in diet, and nutrition.

You can look for a homeopathic doctor, but really there is only so much diet can do, make sure you aren't one of those people who put too much faith in food when its used for other than the intended purpose of nutrition.
Sometimes you really need to cure what ails you with a pill, and theres no shame in that.

I would suggest seeking out a nutritionist or holistic health counselor, in addition to, your primary care doctor. A diet based on whole foods and healthy lifestyle choices will stabilize your body best and best address issues like stress, common colds, minor digestive issues, etc. For more serious problems, it's wise to have a more traditionally trained doctor on hand.

Try finding a patient who will follow good nutrition upon the advice of a doctor!! Good nutrition should be followed by every one. Paying a doctor to tell you to eat healthy is like paying a doctor to tell you to always be sure to breath!! Doctors that focus on diet and nutrition are probably as useful and as common as a rubber crutch!! Doctors are most wisely used to diagnose and treat DISEASES. After all that is what their training is all about. And it takes many years of training and experience to do just that.
