Although there are some cases where vaccinations have caused harm to children, there are MANY MANY MANY MANY more cases where NOT being vaccinated has caused much MORE harm. Diminati	I would urge you to get the vaccinations for your daughter. In 1900 100 of every 1,000 children in the U.S. died before reaching their first birthday. In some cities the mortality rate was as high as 300 of 1,000. Every year that a vaccine was introduced was followed by a drop in infant mortality. By 1987 the rate had dropped to .077 deaths per 1,000 births. One of the reasons vaccination programs are so successful is that not only do they protect your child from catching a potentially deadly disease, they also prevent her from spreading one to others. By refusing vaccinations you are putting your child and others at risk. A former coworker of mine caught polio in 1953. He uses crutches to walk today and is mostly deaf. shanipie7	Are you Serious? Since when has one of those doctors actually helped someone. Please, I was born with Gauchers Disease. It made me have a necrotic hip at 7 yrs old. my mother tried to take me to a homeopathic doctor who waved his friggin hands over me and gave me herbs (which can really mess you up) to relieve my hip pain... Oh yeah that'll work on a necrotic hip...NOT Look the reason people give vaccinations now is because they are proven to work. i mean how many people do you see dying of TB now a days? or Small Pox. Point is your child is much better of getting them than not getting them. So when ur kid goes to college are you not gonna get them a menengitis vaccine? Nicole E	It is not about you...It is about the public in general.. If your child does not get a vacciantion then she can get infectious deaseas and get other people sick. larsor4	I did a search on naturopathic.org and (assuming Austin means Austin, TX) there were nine different doctors it listed in the state. I respect your beliefs in alternative and natural medicines, but you are going to have more of an inconvenience and expense finding them. Not vaccinating your daughter is not okay, because then if she does fall ill, you also will put other children she comes in contact with at risk if they have not had opportunity to be properly vaccinated. mlgable	Contact your local department of health and human welfare to find out what you need to do legally not have your child vaccinated. I can understand you point but I would like to let you know if the vaccine for measles had been around when I was a kid I wouldn't have the severe hearing loss I have had since childhood. If a child wishes to be vaccinated, he can do that when he's older. You can't undo medical procedures. Nicole, how can an unvaccinated person get a vaccinated person sick? Small pox is one thing, how many kids actually die from chicken pox? Very few, and many of those actually died from a bacterial reaction after being given Tylenol, not from the pox itself. Same for mumps, measles, etc. I'm all for limiting vaccines. My kids have HAD the actual mumps, they've had rubella and measles and chicken pox, and as much as it will surprise you, each was no worse than a summer cold. Under such laws you may legally abstain from vaccinating your child for religious reasons, medical reasons, and phylosophical reasons. All that is needed is an affidavit signed by the applicant or, if a minor, by the applicant's parent or guardian stating that the applicant declines immunization for reasons of conscience, including a religious belief. A form must be obtained at the Health Department. This is Texas' Health Department website, and you can get it here: www.tdh.state.tx.us If you need support from a non-profit organization that assist parents in distress regarding vaccinations, you can contact this agency for free: www.vaccineinfo.net And for arguments to present in court or to any school about your reasons to not vaccinate your child, you should have this website: www.nvic.org All of them may refer you to a lawyer in your area that can help you for a minimum fee. And here is a transcription of part of the law chich protect your rights as a parent in Texas regarding the vaccinaton issue: SECTION 2.164. Section 42.043, Human Resources Code, is amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (d-1) to read as follows: (d) No immunization may be required for admission to a facility regulated under this chapter if a person applying for a child's admission submits one of the following affidavits: (1) an affidavit signed by a licensed physician stating that the immunization poses a significant risk [would be injurious] to the health and well-being of the child or a member of the child's family or household; or (2) an affidavit signed by the child's parent or guardian stating that the applicant declines immunization for reasons of conscience, including a religious belief [conflicts with the tenets and practices of a recognized religious organization of which the applicant is an adherent or a member]. (d-1) An affidavit submitted under Section (d)(2) must be on a form described by Section 161.0041, Health and Safety Code, and must be submitted not later than the 90th day after the date the affidavit is notarized.
