Look for a product that contains Zinc. Kepp your thought moist so it doesn't become harsh and get really sor e and raw. If this continues into a cough take Slippery Elm. A southing glass of tea with honey will help soothe the discomfort and I would load up on Vit.c and Ethinacia to prevent anything else settleing in while your immune system is comprimised.

On most occasions it is not helpful, or advisable to take an antibiotic, as viruses predominate, and there is no cure for a virus, furthermore antibiotics have the potential for side-effects, which can, on occasion, be serious.
Some throat infections are bacterial, and these would respond to an antibiotic, but it is impossible to predict from the look of the throat, or the degree of pain, whether the cause is a bacterium. Most viruses subside in a few days, and therefore the longer the infection has lasted, the more likely it may be that an antibiotic might work.
Certainly, on most occasions, there is little to be gained by seeing the doctor, and symptom relief is all that you require, while nature effects a cure:
If not upset by it, adults may try soluble Aspirin, gargling it before swallowing.
Other pain and temperature reducing medication eg Paracetamol or Ibuprofen.
Gargle with salt water or antiseptic Mouthwash / gargle.
Lozenges - these are sometimes antiseptic and sometimes act as a local anaesthetic (to deaden the pain).

Dr Stuart's Detox Tea helps me to clear out infections fast (I'm a singer too, so I understand the need to be rid of it quickly!) Also, put tea tree, Camphor and Eucalyptus essential oils in a burner and/or in a bath to kill any germs. It's not a bad idea to do that whenever you've been in contact with people who have throat infections, it helps to keep them away from you.

Gargle with 1 teaspoon applecider vinegar in 1 cup water. Gargle twice every hour for 8 hours. Don't swallow the vinegar, just spit it out. Guaranteed after 8 hours your throat will be better! Then get yourself a tea called "Throat Coat"...available at healthfood stores or online. My friend is an opera singer. She uses this tea all the time! Good luck.

I always find the best thing to do as soon as I feel a sore throat coming on is to dissolve some soluble Paracetamol in a glass and gargle with it. It always works for me.
