This has been occuring for the last year or so where my tongue just sort of looks weird. I have no idea what is wrong with it but I'll try to describe what it looks like:
Well as you know, normal tongues have that sort of fur look to them, but on mine on certain spots it looks like the fuzz has fallen off. In its place it has several small dots. It almost seems to heal after awhile, but then it soon appears on another spot on my tongue. My tongue doesn't hurt but it just looks very unattractive. Also this morning while brushing it, a spot started to bleed and this is the first time that has happened.
I'm only 16 and my Dad says nothing is wrong with it but I really want to know what it is. On my last Dentist visit I forgot to ask their opinion but my Dentist asked if I sleep with my mouth open? (Which I don't) Could that be part of it? I really would like to know what is wrong with my tongue!

I would say tell a doctor, not a dentist. this happened to my friend she got ointment for her tongue and it was better after a couple days |

Obviously, there is something wrong. Do not worry I am sure your just growing and your tounge is shedding taste buds. I also think you are brushing too hard on your tounge which is causing it to bleed. |

You may have a vitamin C deficiency. Ask your doctor about it. If it's vit C take 100 mg per day (more than the doc will suggest). If it doesn't feel sore it's probably not oral thrush. |

You may have a geographic tongue like me. I just means your tongue has different shapes and patterns on it. and about the bleeding you were probably just brushing to hard. I hope that I helped you :) |

I have the same thing on occasion, my doctor said it was a bacterial infection and prescrobed an antibiotic and that did the trick. If you don't want to see a doctor it will heal in time on its own. |

At your age its probably a poor diet or stress causing cankers. Don't brush your tongue too hard. Rinse with warm salt water. |

I imagine if it was something to be concerned about your dentist would have mentioned it. |

Chinese medicine has a system of tongue diagnosis. The peeling on your tongue may indicate yin deficiency and the papillae indicate heat. Yin deficiency and heat often go together. Yin deficiency is caused by a lack of downtime and rest. You might be "tired and wired"--exhausted underneath, but feeling tense and hyper on the surface. Try to get in bed well before 11 PM and eat no later than 7 PM. Exercise vigorously during the day to get the tension out. The heat means you probably feel physically hot, wake up in the middle of the night, are prone to fever when sick, and are restless. Cut back on meat (a "hot" food), drink plenty of water (not ice water--just cool), and take up meditation. Whole stories are written on our tongues! |
