evidently you aren't in charge of your own mind. so override the thinking with counting. from one to ten over and over. best way to do it is to count the breaths. when you exhale count one,next breath two and so on. if you lose track of count,just start over. no big deal.///its a form of meditation. so even if you don't go to sleep you will get the meditation benefits.

Well, that's a tough question to answer if your mind is racing but your body is tired.... that could be from stress, from activity, from various forms of stimulation, or a number of other possibilities.

Generally, teas will only calm the body, as will most sleeping pills, so those won't really help for your situation.
You could try listening to some of those calming/relaxing CDs (rain forest sounds or whatever), or doing some mentally relaxing activities in the evening (reading something non-involving, knitting, or some other activity with your hands that's not strenuous or needing a lot of concentration). Make sure you avoid any mentally stimulating things like puzzle games, intense dramas, or action shows before bed... any of those can stimulate the mind so you can have trouble sleeping.

I've had the same problem in the past, so I've had to figure out ways to let my mind and body calm down before trying to go to bed. Good luck!

EFT, or the Emotional Freedom Techniques is something that I use on a regular basis, especially when I'm in your situation. Tired, but have a million things going through my mind. You can learn EFT for free by visiting http://emofree.com and downloading the Free Get started Manual. I would first try a simple approach, like "Even though my mind is racing, I choose to be peaceful and relaxed" This worked for me recently.

Some days, It's best if I get really specific. For instance: "Even Though I can't stop thinking about what I should have said to that smart *** at the day care, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and I choose to rest"

Mabe you could benafit from some breathing exercises along with relaxation cd's also their are herbs that can calm you before bed like valarine root or Skullcap. these are bitter to taste so one whould probably desire capsuls. Also if you are any prescription or over the counter medicines make sure you check before taking any natural remedies as they some thimes do not mix with standard medicines.GoodLuck I hope this helps!

There are some great answers and to add to them here are some herbals like Chamomile or valarian...you can purchase a "SleepyTime Tea" by Bigelow at almost any grocer or drugstore ...

- do excersise about 2 hours before bed/ don't do excersise straight before you go sleep becasue excercise believe it or not gives you more energy
-warm milk, not hot, no sugar
-lisen to a classical music cd or meditate
- don't have a tv in your bedroom or anything else that would keep you distracted from sleeping
-don't have any light showing, when you hve light showing it realeases a message in your brain to stay awake
- have a note pad beside your bed, so if you feel worried about anythng write it down
good sleeping
