Robin B	There is a high you get from this medication that is suppose to equal that of heroin or Cocaine. The high is a euphoric, happy, blissful feeling. Oxycontin in highly addictive, some pain medications, like Oxycodone are a physiological dependency , while the Oxycontin is a physical one. When a Pt is prescribed Oxycontin, it is for moderate to severe pain. Usually for Cancer pain, post surgical or other pains like that. 80mg for a PT with that kind of pain is really alright to take AS DIRECTED. Your father should take it as the doctor prescribed it. Your "friends" should be kept FAR away from this medication. It can be deadly, and it is most certainly addictive. Taking one or two of these pills is enough to get them high. Again, I suggest STRONGLY you inform your father if they are getting to his prescribed medication. You are cheating him of pain relief. Your friends are in trouble, and need help as well. These medications can and will cause terrible problems. Liver damage, brain damage, long term addiction. Oxycodone is not as dangerous, but still deadly. It is easier to get, as well as easier to take. Both of these medications can and will effect your motor skills, and they both can cause respiratory failure with overdose. Please please advise your father about this. These kids are starting a really bad scene. These medications, if not taken as directed by THEIR physician can kill. Was this answer helpful to you? Peter K	You mean Oxycontin don't you? I do know that the 160mg tablet got discontinued because of the danger of abuse and overdosing. The druggie way is to crush the tablet. This defeats the time-release property so you get a big hit immediately. However, this also greatly increases the risk of an overdose. It is also addictive like other opiates. Withdrawal symptoms can be very unpleasant. Is it dangerous? It has been implicated in less deaths than mad cow disease. My advice is, if you want to get a thrill, go on a fast bicycle ride. Oxys are horrible my mom takes em and i jus to sell em to herione junkies. the higher the tolerance the more they can handle but some high school kid trying it for the first time can serioulsy die. the reason they invented oxys was to aid cancer patients in dying.... it shurts your body down.. lostintranslation	actually, even one is plenty to get a buzz going. i'm not a druggie, nor do i intend on being one, but i do know that just because something is good for one person doesn't mean it'll be good for everyone. it affects certain muscles and nerves by numbing them, or (like Cocaine) forces your brain to excrete larger quantities of certain hormones. if you're sick, this may be just what you need. Perhaps it releases pain or forces antibody production to speed up, but if they're not required, then your body's in for harm. even 1 is enough to get a buzz. Was this answer helpful to you? NONAME	someone who has never taken an oxycodone or "Oxycontin" can die from a couple of 80 mg pills, the stuff is no joke man. If you want to get high off of them, then just pop a couple of 20mg, that should be enough. its a powerful pain killer. ooops, wrong pill, Ive never heard of oxycodine. robin b	did you mean Oxycontin? because if so those are time released and young people who have never experienced real pain from and acident or surgery and are just loking for ahigh take an 80mg and dont feel what there expecting to feel in 40-45 minutes and then they take another one to get that feeling they are looking for and by the time it`s said and done both pill`s have released over a period of time and you`ve got a kid turning blue not breathing.I became addicted to Oxycontin and ended up in a Methadone clinic and 3v years later I`m still there trying to work the program and detox prorerly. *Ashuhlee*	Oxycontin is used to treat pain, but by taking them when you don't need them can affect the body in a way that people can feel as if they are high. Taking too many however will surely do that. If your friends are taking pills that haven't been prescribed to them, then they obviously shouldn't even be taking them. You for instance could say something to them about it. If they're really your friends then they'll listen to you. By them taking even a pill or two or so a day will overtime hurt them when they don't need to be taking them. emtd65	More then one at a time and several a day - if any one is stupid enough to live like that. I have been prescribed this medication for pain several times and I have never gotten high from it, in fact there are times it does not do any thing for my pain. Was this answer helpful to you? Q4U	Oxycodine is really, really strong. Your dad has probably built up a bit of a tolerance. Also body weight has a bit to do with it, someone who is heavier has to take more. In any case, just one pill could easily give someone a buzz. It just depends on the person. I had to take it once, and one knocked me out. There isn't really anyway to tell if he could overdose without the strength of the pill your friends are taking. Do you have any idea? Oh, and no you aren't explaining yourself poorly.
