I'm currently recuperating from a jaw surgery, and take a Xanax at night, not every night though. I usually can't remembermy dreams, but last week I had terrible dreams. i can't tell if it was because of the Xanax, but I usually don't have bad dreams.

Yes, among other side effects.
Xanax is best used only on occasion for panic attacks. It's a lousy sleep Aid -- ask your doctor for something better to help you sleep.

Xanax causes increased REM, which is the time when you have the most dreams. So it could cause an increase in odd or weird dreams as you described. If you are prescribed this medicine, I as an RN, would consult my doctor about it. If it's disturbing your sleeping habits or bothering you that much, you may want to consider another medication. Also Xanax is very addictive, so I would try to get swapped over as soon as possible. Lots of people "crash" after going off Xanax and can become suicidal. Be careful with that stuff, and Good luck!
