Benadryl. Take 2 of the 25mg Benadryl about an hour and a half before bedtime, and it will make you slowly get sleepier. Then you will sleep the night through, and since you took it well before bedtime, you should not have any "Benadryl hangover". You can buy generic Benadryl (diphenhydramine Hcl) in bottles of 100 tablets/capsules for under $10. It is completely non-addictive and non-habit forming, and very safe. Don't drink any caffeine after 4pm. Good luck!

Don't go for over the counter sleeping pills, u will get addicted. Go naturally and try home remedies.
-Take a glass of milk, sweetened with honey (with or without a pinch of nutmeg) every night half an hour before bedtime.
-Take a hot bath or shower at bedtime which will promote sound sleep.
-Practice relaxation exercises shortly before bedtime.

Eat lettuce or Cabbage, they're VERY soporiphic (hence the Beatrix Potter book, 'Peter Rabbit and the soporiphic effect of Lettuce')
Try milk and Cinnamon, it's an ancient treatment
Pills may have side effects, it's not worth it.

try Melatonin. It's a natural substance that's released in your brain anyway to help you sleep! They work!
Or Ambien!

Well, any OTC sleeping pill should help you fall asleep here or there, but you don't want to take them long term, since they can become addictive. Also, you should stay away from medicines that are for more than just sleep... for example, don't take Tylenol PM to sleep unless you're also in pain, and don't take Benedryl to sleep unless your allergies are keeping you up.
If you're looking for a long-term, it's more important to find out why you're not sleeping. You could try one of a few natural sleep products if your Serotonin. There's Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile, Hops, L-Tryptophan, L-Theanine, Passionflower, and Scullcap (an herb). You can try any one of those to help you sleep naturally.
However, if you're not sleeping due to stress or something else in your environment, these may not provide as much benefit as you're looking for. Also, it's possible you aren't sleeping because you have too much Serotonin, but that's rare. To be on the safe side, you may want to have a doctor check you out to find out what's causing it and to make sure it's not some sort of medical condition or something. Good luck!

I can tell you from my experience as a chronic insomniac that I have tried Ambien, Ambien CR, Trazadone and they all left me either not sleepy at all or the trazadone made me fall asleep but wake up feeling like I was hungover. So, my dr told me I could continue to use OTC simply Sleep, from the makers of Tylenol pm. It works great for me. I have to take it every night but the dr. says its safe and I never wake up groggy. Good luck to you. It really stinks being one with insomnia.
