Have you just been swimming? You probably have an ear infection, its treatable with ear Drops and cotton wool, and antibiotics if necessary. Try to find a pharmacy or drug store open late?

If you know what you're doing you could try flushing your ear with warm water. This will remove the wax and release the water behind it.

I find that saline solution can help in the short term, if you need to get through the night before you can go see someone.

If you're not into seeing a doctor, you could try ear candling. I've never tried it with an ear infection, but I've tried it without, and I've heard they can do amazing things to infected ears. Depending on where you live, someone at your local co-op will probably have some idea of where to get your ears candled.

Until you can go to the doctor, take some Ibuprofen. Then get a washcloth wet with hot water and hold it over your ear. The moist heat will help with the pain. Try sleeping with a heating pad on that ear.

The doctor can give you antibiotics to clear up the infection very quickly.

Hey, I am really sorry to hear about that, as I used to suffer alot of them when I was younger.

What I used to do was make a hot water bottle, cover it with a towel, and place it on your ear whilst you are lying down. (Lying on the hot water bottle.)

It always used to work for me as it would melt the built in wax.

Hope this works for you!!

Warm 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil over a stove burner or flame for a few seconds, just until comfortably warm. Put a few drops in your ear and plug with cotton ball. Heating pad will help, too.

Tomorrow, get some ear Drops with Mullein & Garlic from the health food store and start using them. Also Lavender oil or Tea Tree Oil dabbed in front of the ear and behind the ear will help w/ pain.

If its swimmers ear, you can get over the counter antibiotics, in the form of ear Drops. If its an inner ear infection, you have to go to the doctor to get oral antibiotics.

There are a few different causes for ear pain.
But the acute onset makes infection likely. (assuming you have not suffered any trauma).

There are 2 issues:
Pain control
Relieve cause.

From a pain control point of view you should try paracetemol and other over the counter analgesia, however it may not be sufficient to relieve it.

YOu need to have your ear examined. You will need to see your GP to make sure there is no damage to your ear drum. And you may need antibiotic ear Drops.

APart from taking pain killer there is nothing that you can do to relieve it. do not stick anything in your ear, or pour any liquid.

If you are still in unbearable pain, I would advice you to call your out of hours GP, or attend A+E. And they would happily look in your ear and give you strong analgesia and if needed antibiotic sray.

Good luck, all the best.

Ps. do not apply heat to your ear as suggested above, as it is unclear what the cause of your pain is, and if it is an infection, the heat can promote bacterial growth and spread through the tissues and cause a severe cellulitis. Again can I emphasise, DO NOT put anything in your ear until a doctor has looked in it.

People here keep promoting ear candling. It is appalling advice! Extremely dangerous and has no beneficial effect. Please read this link before you decide to proceed with candling:
