Mental depressions are caused to a person who is idle and not busy.
Busy person dont get depressions.
If you want to take serotonin then use the drugs which have serotonin. But if u get busy you will be free from anxiety and depression!
Plus ST John wort can be helpful. if you want to try it
Good luck!

Have you tried St.Johns Wart, it is supposed to be very beneficial, just be careful if you are taking any other tablets, because it can cancel them out.

St. John's Wort is supposed to be the best for Depression, with Valerian said to be good for anxiety. One thing you must do though is check how they mix with any other medicines and remedies you may be taking (particularly important with St. John's Wort which has contraindications with some medicines.

Not sure about the food but I can recommend a very good book which contains recipes for superfoods to help with a vast array of ailments, both physical and mental - it's called "The Food Doctor - Healing Foods for Mind and Body". Here's a link to it (but I bought my copy on Amazon). http://www.thefooddoctor.com/cid/NRRXVJY5IKYJQFFTWWZ20IVWXK8XZKEU/test-name1-PHEALINGBK/

Good luck.

Getting regular exercise helps manage depression. You should also make sure you get an hour of sunlight everyday and are taking multivitamins. Massage can assist with managing depression and anxiety.

When I'm feeling depressed doing some kind of volunteer work helps. If you're helping others, you are less focused on yourself. It can also give you some perspective, because you can see how bad some other people's problems are.

Depression is quite complex because it depends on each individual set of circumstances. Firstly, deal with what you can identify as the cause or trigger for your depression and anxiety. It may not be immediately obvious to you, but maybe think of what your are thinking about or the situation you're in when the bad feelings come.

Also, avoid depressants such as: alcohol, drugs (prescription, over-the-counter and recreational), artificial sweeteners (such as NutraSweet, Equal. a.k.a. aspartame or food additive 951. They are considered neurotoxins by several studies, which means that they damage brain cells), caffeine, cigarette smoke, blood sugar imbalance, hormonal imbalances (such as hyper- or hypothyroidism, oestrogen imbalance or adrenal exhaustion), lack of exercise, lack of sunlight, problems converting the amino acid Tryptophan to serotonin, digestive disturbances affecting nutrient absorption, anger and stress.

Address each of the above depressants (obviously all will not apply to you) - at least they will take some of the load off and get you doing some different things to your normal routine and the main thing that helps pull you out of depression is action and change. Just small steps. One change is better than no change.

If you need to, see a counsellor or psychologist if you have trouble dealing with specific issues. Sometimes a detached perspective can be really helpful.

Sunlight and exercise are really important. Sunlight hitting our eyes sends a nerve message to the brain to produce more serotonin. Exercise will also do this. Both together, such as going for a walk or a run or weeding the garden outside in the fresh air and sunshine will bring your happiness level up a couple of notches on its own.

Some foods that contain Tryptophan, which converts to serotonin, are: chicken breast, yellowfin tuna, soybeans, lamb loin, turkey breast, halibut, shrimp/prawns, salmon, snapper.

I'm of the opinion though that no single food will help. You need to eat a variety of natural food (as unprocessed as possible, made from scratch), based on lots of different vegetables and even though lots of meat sources were listed above, I would suggest eating more vegetarian protein to keep your digestive system clean and healthy.

There are many herbs that help depression, but definitely as mentioned above, St Johns Wort (hypericum perforatum) is considered the best. If you are taking other medication it may not be advised though as St Johns Wort can interfere with the metabolism of other drugs. It takes a few weeks to kick in but it really does work if you get a good quality product. You may like to also drink Lemon Balm and Lavender tea throughout the day for a light pick-me-up. That won't drag you out of a deep depression though.

SAM-e (S-adenosyl Methionine) is expensive but many people also find it very helpful. It starts working within a week or so if you take the right dose.

5-HTP can also help with the Tryptophan to serotonin conversion.

Ooh I didn't realise how long that answer became! Hope it's helpful.

Herbs like:

Ashwaganda
L-Theanine
Gaba
Vinpocetine
5-HTP
Rhodiola Rosea

are very good for most people. Also the Vitamin B family. You can try these natural herbs and vitamins seperately or in a blend (formula) like in the product called Panicyl. Which is what I use for my anxiety & depression.

Hope this helps!
