My grand-baby has been on formula for about a month, her tongue is white, what can we do about it?

bethybug	Lots of babies get this. It is an overgrowth of bacteria called thrush. You can tell if the baby has it if it won't wipe off. It can spread to the diaper area and cause redness and soreness. When the baby is drinking the bottle they might cry or be more irritable because of mouth or throat soreness. It can be treated with Nystatin painted with a q tip in the mouth several times a day. Another name for this is Mycostatin and is in your drug store without a prescription. Another treatment is Acidophilus which you can get in powder or capsule form from your health food store. Make a paste with water and rub in the baby's mouth 1 time a day or put 1 teaspoon in the formula 1 time a day. If the diaper area gets really red and irritated use Nystatin or Lotrimin cream to the area. Also boil the nipples or clean in the dishwasher to make sure not to reinfect your baby as long as she has thrush in her mouth. xxon_23	Give her plain water to drink after milk. I'm not sure if this is advisable, but maybe you can get a soft washrag and try to dab her tongue a little? It can be like a tongue scraper for babies! Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

lidakamo	i'm just guessing but, alot of babies get this. it's called thrush. it's a type of yeast infection. go to this web site www.webmd.com that should help you diagnose her problem. if it's thrush, it's going to be ok. she'll need to go to the dr. though. good luck Was this answer helpful to you? T M	have you asked a doctor if she might have yeast infection? it is absolutely possible to this orally. if there isnt anything medically wrong, try getting a BABY toothbrush, and gently brush her tounge. massage her little gums and tounge (carefully) with a dampened cloth, it helps to keep her mouth clean. anarchycreations	Do not give your baby honey! It's one of those up there with peanut butter on the list of what not to give your baby until their older. Your question: Are the spots blotchy?
