Would the use possibly even medical use of marijuana maybe aid in the birthing process? Wait before you go DO WHAT? Hear me out. Would perhaps a medicinal and non ebrasive small dose of THC, the active ingrediant, in marijuana maybe help with the ease of giving birth?

If it is easier to give birth to a dead baby then it would work. |

I would have to answer no, Its is still very addictive and I wouldn't to run the chance of it getting to the baby through the mother's blood supply and passing it on to her unborn child. He/she could be born addicted. |

THC works as a stimulator, But I wouldn't recommend it for birthing...Just like feeding yourself foods, the baby takes in what you eat too....it can cause a higher chance in birth defects. Also it doesn't create numbness enough to be used as a muscle relaxant. I'd talk with your OB/Gyn Doctor about this...only to find out what alternatives are out there that won't affect the baby at birthing.... |

I would say yes, just don't think you can smoke it all the way through your pregnancy. That'd just cause problems for your baby. |

no, i had a kid, it would not be strong enough, and there would be allergic complications with a lot of people, plus it can make some people sick and have severe fatigue, whereas the epideral is stronger, quicker, and less side effects. I smoke i know. |

No since this is not a pain killer I don't see how it would help with the pain of giving birth. Also it would get into the babies system and I don't think the babies delicate system could handle it. |

NO, no and no. Marijuana is not a pain inhibitor, it is a relaxer. Relax all you want the pain will still be there. |

i think it would make it worse... |

Cannabis has been shown to be an excellent herbal medicine to assist pregnant women throughout their pregnancy and delivery. Please consult the links below. |

It would be ground breaking if they offer it. It is not as outrageous as it sounds- no side effects, no harm done. It is only for certain people everyone won't agree, but why is it alcohol is legal and can be harmful, and addictive and yet u can take a drink r two and nothing is said. |

Marijuana is not much of a pain Reliever, but it can have a calming effect, so in that way it could maybe aid in the birthing process. |

it was fairly common practise in the 60's and 70's, eases stress and whatnot, people still do it, but not as common. It has NO negative effect on the baby, and can be a lifesaver when you get really scared or anxious, you can give birth much more easily and with less pain if you are not stressed out. |

yea i bet it could, it could relax the mother. one time at birth i doubt will affect the baby. |

Maybe, nothing fantastic about it, marijuana is just a very very mild drug... Anyway, be careful when dealing with it ok? Regards... |

Before everyone goes crazy, I think she might have a good point.I am not sure of the amount the baby would get but I think the government should seriously research the effectiveness off medicinal marijuana. My boyfriend has a closed head injury and is taking all kinds of prescriptions that have terrible side effects and do not work. Unfortunately he does smoke weed occasionally and it truly helps. I do not smoke and never have , but it makes him much, much more tolerable. I really don't think taking it for childbirth would be a good idea for the purpose of the baby. But if they could find a way to block the THC then yes it would help. You brought up a very debatable issue but I don't think the Government will touch this one because there is no way weed could be taxed so therefore if they don't get their share then it won;t happen. |

I agree that a dose of THC would not have any long term effects on the infant and I have heard of the tincture of Cannabis being used in childbirth. It wasn't used as a painkiller, however; it was used in situations when the mother's contractions were in danger of stopping to ensure that they continued strongly. Strangley though it may seem to those who understand that it only relaxes, it has the effect of intensifying the contractions. To those with extremely negative responses, please note that the legal status of a substance is a political matter and has nothing to do with its toxicity. I think the pain killers they commonly use before and after childbirth likely have more of an effect on the infants health than THC does. |

New evidence has shown that marijuana can help ease the pain of people suffering from chronic pain in joints and bones, and recovering from surgery, even MS and diabetes so while it probably wouldn't relieve all of the pain from childbirth, it might be useful as a more "natural" painkilling option during the process. And since at this point, the child has disconnected from the mother's system for the most part, the effects on the infant would probably be negligible. |

I can't believe some the responses on here. A medicinal, or non medicinal dose of marijuana just before the mother gives birth would NOT cause a birth defect, make her or her child stupid, or have any long term negative affects on either person. I don't think it would ease the pain of child birth, however it would relax the mother a LITTLE. Marijuana produces a euphoric feeling, not a pain killer. Great question! Four you people with idiot responses.....read up on marijuana before you answer and do your homework. |

Why? Last I heard what they use now works pretty well. If there is a good reason to try something different, maybe. I am not in favor of increasing the use of medical marijuana, however. Not because using this drug for medicine is wrong, but because a lot of times people who supply the hospitals with marijuana also supply it to people who sell it on the streets. I would rather not give those people any legitimacy. |
