It all depends on their size. If they're small enough to pass without you knowing (which is possible) then you're very lucky. Usually they require treatment, lithotripsy, this uses ultrasounds to break down the stones into tiny fragments which you can then pass.
If you have them you will tremendous pain when urinating and will have pain around your kidney area.

My dear the pain as they try to pass from the kidney and into the urether as i well know from the many times i have experienced them can be excruciating, pain so bad you cant think strait, you fall to the floor the pain is so bad and you are sick several times and feel so un well, all you can do is lie down as the pain is so bad, i had to be injected with pethadin and a suppository with local aneasthetic to help with the pain but even that only dimmed it a little bit!
it took a week to pass the kidney stone as i was in hospital each time with them, months before i suffered with water infection after water infection, one course of anti-biotic after another but to no avail. the only relief is when it is finally passed out of your system after what seems like you a drinking a well dry!!
go back immediately and seek a doctors advise and it if is so bad my dear go strait to hospital as it sounds like it is either too big to pass on its own or they could be another underlying reason for the pain
Best of luck!

Not always! That is why patients are instructed to strain their urine. It is actually quite important to have yourself checked out even if you have recurrent stones. You never know when you may have one that could obstruct a kidney. This could cause SERIOUS irreversible damage. Your dealing with more than just pain when you suffer from a kidney stone. You could easily lose a kidney. Good luck! I know it's a VERY painful thing to deal with!

You would be lucky 'not' to feel them pass. But if you have blood in your urine this could be a sign.
Have you seen a doc.? Do you have severe pain in you back and do you feel nauseous? Most of the time it is a wait and see process, but a physician should be consulted.
If the stone gets stuck you could lose kidney function. If the stone is large enough the doc Will laser it so it will be easier to pass. Really worth the visit.
Otherwise, lay off the caffeine and steer clear off low-carb diets. These will increase your chances of another attack. I wish the best of luck and health!

You must not have kidney stones. They are EXTREMELY painful and, if large enough, you can feel them pass. My cousin was in the hospital for 3 days a few years ago. They had her on so much medication that she was drooling and couldn't even function and she was still crying in pain.

I've had eight of them in 18 years. The first 3 or 4 you know you past it. The relief is ecstatic after that you may not notice you've even got one.

Kidney stones put me in hospital for a week last november, but only because i wanted it to pass naturally and refused the operation to remove it. I did feel every millimetre it moved though from my bladder through the pipework but never knew it had exited and only knew that it had as my urine was being seived. I was having x-rays to check on the stone's position every other day. I am definitely dreading the next lot. My mate passed one at work and never felt a thing from the bladder to the penis but he sure felt it on its exit and heard it hit the bowl.

Many persons with kidney stones fail to show distinct symptoms. Others can have severe kidney pain, infection, and inflammation. In treatment any current infections are dealt with, medications are given in attempts to dissolve the stones, and large stones that fail to dissolve are removed by surgery.

Yes, my dad had them, and he was in excruciating pain! Also, my grandma had them, and she said it was almost as bad as having a baby with no pain meds. So yes, you definitely feel them when they come out.
