Tums, saltine crackers help, anything that will absorb the excess acid causing the problem. Slice of bread is another. Also, don't lay down right after eating, stay upright for at least a minimum of one hour. Changing your diet should help also, less acidic foods,no mexican cooking, spicy foods. If you have had this a long time, it could be GERDS or you may have a hiatal hernia. Good luck.

Drinking a glass of milk can help, and you can also drink a solution of water and baking soda. Both the milk and the baking soda contain bicarbonate, which will help neutralize the acid.

Mix a spoon of baking soda in half a glass of water and drink it. Baking soda is Sodium Bicarbonate, which is the same thing used in alka-seltzer and similar to Tums (Calcium carbonate). You just don't get the fizz.

Stop eating carbohydrates. They ferment and cause acid reflux. No carbs, no heartburn. Try it for 3 days and let me know how it worked for you.

I'd GOOGLE " prevent heartburn" so that you can proactively avoid needing the home remedy. It can be related to acid reflux so see if you notice a difference when you eat smaller meals(bad news ha?), avoid spicy or acidic food, and coffee-not sure if that means caffeine in general, avoid activity for at least an hour after eating, don't lay down-even slightly after eating for about an hour, avoid drinking a lot of liquid with your meals a half hr. before and after(which is supposed to help w/ weight loss by the way because supposedly your stomach enzymes aren't diluted but of cours but drink a lot of water outside of that period of course :) ), Haven't found help in any herbal types of remedies but antacids help a lot- in moderation and not on a daily type of basis though. If nothing works, please see a Dr. because if it's that constant it will start causing greater physical problems down the road so DON'T ignore it.
