yes, feel secure in the fact that it cannot harm you.... hypnosis, especially self hypnosis is dealing directly with your subconcious, and ultimately nothing can just change without your knowledge or wanting it to. so long as your self hypnosis involves something to better you, then yes i say do it, and do not worry. i have done it heaps.

I do it regularly and I'm fine (I was taught by a professional). So I'd say yes it is safe.

I have used self hypnosis. For me, It is different than hypnosis, as I do not go into the deep relaxation. It does help though. I would not do it while driving a car or where you need to be focused on what you are doing.
I would recomend you discuss this with a hypnotist as they can explain how to properly use self hypnosis.

Self hypnosis or any other kind of hypnosis is totally safe

The most common kind of self-hypnosis is listening to a tape or CD which tells you pretty things that you want to hear to help you achieve what you want to achieve. (for example: I have a "pain control CD that I play when I have pain that is preventing me from sleeping. It puts me right to sleep, and I can wake up rested) Some people use self-hypnosis CDs to help them lose weight, quit smoking, or achieve goals they have set for themselves.

In a hypnosis session, I tape what I am saying to my client, so that she or he can use the session again and again as a self-hypnosis aid.

You can also read books which will tell you things to suggest to yourself, and you can do this as you go, or you can make a tape of the instructions, for self hypnosis.

Since I have a chronic pain, I know several self-hypnosis techniques for pain reduction, so, when I experience pain that is interfering with my lifestyle, I use my self-hypnosis techniques to "disappear" the pain. ( I will still know all about the pain and can describe it accurately if I go to my doctor)

Use self hypnosis confidently to achieve your goals.

Absolutely. My mother has her doctorate in psychology, although she's not into hypnosis. Hypnosis is really just about suggestion, and so is self hypnosis. It's training the body to respond to verbal clues. For example, someone quitting smoking might be hypnotized not to respond to the need for Nicotine, and to replace that habit with another one, like going for a walk, etc. Then, the self hypnosis would be whenever they wanted to smoke, they would just tell themselves to relax, get in their happy place etc.

Yes. The biggest risk in hypnosis is that the hypnotist might suggest something shocking or terrifying. If some friends were goofing around with hypnosis and one suggested the house was on fire or a some other dangerous situation the subject could react in an unexpected panicky manner. That would never happen with self hypnosis.
