You shouldn't as alcohol is a depressant, also some people can get bad reactions to alcohol and and pills. I had a friend who was drinking while taking antibiotics and he was very ill. Speak to your doctor they will advise you if 1 or 2 drinks would be okay. But if in doubt don't drink, just enjoy hanging out with your friends, you don't have to drink alcohol, its often better not to, then you see exactly how stupid the stuff makes us all. |

Wow, some of you went into details about things that can happen to you. My doctor knows I drink occasionally. The only thing I was ever told was that it lessens the drugs ability to help you. I know it can make some ppl more suicidal. I would just ask your doctor. I don't know how severe your case is and nor does anyone else. |

My father in-law blew his brains out in public while taking Prozac and scotch. If your friends like going to your funeral, go ahead. |

if you must drink, don't take yer meds that day.together, antidepressants&alcohol are a dangerous combo, they slow down your cerebral functions, and yer breathing. best case scenario is they'll make you very sluggish and drowsy. |

Yes, it is dangerous. When you combine the 2 it can make your heart stop beating. Maybe you need to get new friends. I have lots of family and friends and none of them drink. Are you seeing a psychologist? If not, you really should. They can tell you how to deal with this issue. It doesn't mean that people are crazy if they see a psychologist. They are there to help provide guidance to people. It's good to combine the help a psychologist provides (mental counseling) with the help a psychiatrist provides (prescribing antidepressants). One cannot do the job of the other. You need both. |

Alcohol will only mess things up even more for you. Have you ever known alcohol to really improve someone's life? I understand the desire to go out and have fun with friends. But you have a few options. 1)Go out with friends, drink alcohol, and never really get better. 2)Go out with friends, drink something else, learn to have fun without alcohol, and eventually get better. 3)Don't go out with them, either get new friends, or at least only do other things with them. If all they want to do is go out and drink, perhaps you should reconsider your friendship. Then eventually get better. Those are pretty much your options as I see them. Good luck! |

Something already dangerous has happened to you.Don't do something to yourself to make it even more dangerous. You can have fun without drinking.Be the designated driver. |

If you don't want to not be able to go out with your friends to have a good time, STOP DRINKING. Alcohol is a depressant. Think about this: It doesn't make sense to take an antidepressant to relieve your depression, and then to drink alcohol which depresses you. This would be like eating a salad because you are on a diet, and then putting 4000 calories of dressing on it. You do not have to drink alcohol to have a good time. If you don't believe me, look at children playing. Don't they have fun? How much alcohol do they consume in order to have fun? You have led yourself to believe that you need alcohol in order to have fun. What happens is that alcohol takes away some of your inhibitions. I am not saying that it is easy to give up alcohol. I personally know that it is not easy, but it can be done. Believe me. And yes, something dangerous can happen to you. I won't go into details because I don't want to be here all day. |

Alcohol is incompatible with many of the drugs used to treat depression. It can intensify the sedative effects of some antidepressants. Chronic alcohol consumption can increase the availability of some antidepressants while decreasing the availability of others. Tyramine, a substance found in beer and wine, can interact with MAOIs potentially causing a dangerous rise in blood pressure. Consult your physician or pharmacist for specific precautions regarding your own medications. |
