Actually, not just water but a hot drink, like hot tea. Drink about 2 cups quickly. This relaxes the intestinal muscles.

This can be done at any time of day. You must have an empty stomach when you eat them. Have 3 to 6 dried apricots. You can have more just to make sure.
Make sure you're near a loo.......

Constipation is a warning from your body. You need to address the issue that's caused it because it can lead to worse conditions. Have you always had it? Are you getting any medication that's caused it? Are you in a period of extreme stress? Is your diet well-balanced? Do you have your meals at specific times every day? Here's a few tips that may help:
1. You may not like the sound of this, but mix half a cup of virgin, biological olive oil with half a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice and drink it straight up. That usually gets you going REALLY fast.
2. Start your day with a warm cup of water in which you've added the juice of half a lemon and 1-2 tsp of honey. End your day with a warm glass of milk - adding some honey will help more. Do this daily. It'll relax and maintain the good health of your digestive system.
3. Have 2 kiwis or 3 prunes or 3 figs a day - all great laxatives. Generally, add a lot of leafy green vegatables, rich in Magnesium.
4. If you're having starches, go for the wholemeal products.
5. Exercise - especially walk.
6. Drink lots of water. Some of it could be hot cups of tea, but avoid black tea and lots of caffeine containing beverages.
7. Make sure you have your meals at the same time every day. Nothing regulates our bowels as well as having our meals at specific times.
8. Make sure you have 1 tbs of virgin olive oil with your meals - raw. Don't cook it. Add it as dressing.
9. Add a tbs of flaxseed over your cereal or salad - every day.
10. Rub your abdomen regularly. Do some Gentle large circles starting on the bottom right (where your appendix is), go up, to the left etc. It's important to follow the large intestine. You may ask a registered aromatherapist to create a special blend for you to use on your belly daily. I can't suggest specific essential oils for you because that depends on your personal medical history.
11. Don't panick and avoid anything that gives you too much stress. And when you go to the toilet, be relaxed. Don't push.
12. You may want to try some dancing meditation, or yoga. Osho's Kundalini meditation helps a lot. You can get it on CD. It has a video that shows you how to do it.
13. Have Probiotic products, e.g. yoghurt that contains Lactobacillus Acidophilus or Lactobacillus casei Shirota, or just get them in pill form. I don't know specific brands in your country, but I'm sure they exist in health food stores.
Hope these will help you. I have personally found the probiotics to be more effective in the long run, but try the oil and orange juice as an extreme one-off remedy. In Greece, we also have a special jam made of wild rose petals that REALLY does WONDERS, but I don't know if you can find it where you are.
Good luck!

You gotta hold your nose when you take this, because it is vile, but Senna is the biz. I had to take it for a colonoscopy, it was vile, but in an hour, I felt about six stone lighter! This is some powerful stuff so don't use it often, but it definitly gets the job done. It works better in liquid form, it is so rank but it works. Hope that this is of help to you.

I was using Epsom salt to soak my foot the other night and I read the carton and it say's its a laxative.
I felt I was alittle bound up at the time so I followed the directions on the side and it worked great. It said it would work in 1/2 - 6 hrs and with me 4 hours later I had to go.

Have you tried senna leaves, you can buy them in health food stores, you just infuse it into your cup of tea and drink it. You can also get pods but you should be careful with those because the seeds are quite strong. Only use it for a short while to get rid of the constipation.
If problems persist- consult the doctor!
drinking lots of water will certainly help, people are right about that.

magnesium citrate, it's in a bottle in the laxatives dept at walmart. we used it where i worked in a physical rehab.
another thing that worked very fast but tastes terrible is mixing bran with prune juice and milk Of Magnesia. with all the pain meds used where i worked constipation was a real problem. these two remedies were the most effective. to avoid it happening again was fiber like Metamucil along with a stool Softener like Colace without the stimulant. both of these things can be purchased at walmart or any pharmacy. hoped this helped.

Drink: Only one of these at a time. Don't mix
A lot of fresh raw organic fruit or vegetable juices (don't mix fruits with vegetables. Combining fruits together is okay and combining vegetable together is okay.
Wheat-grass juice 2 more ounces
sea salt water - as much or as little as you need. This should work fast
Olive oil- not the best solution but it should work. Cold pressed oil is best.
Happy cleansing!

Quickest constipation fix is an enema. Find them at the local pharmacy (chemist). There are also suppositories that work quickly. Slowest working are the oral laxatives.
