Chronic sinusitis
Chronic sinusitis is a complicated Spectrum of diseases that share chronic inflammation of the sinuses in common. The causes are multifactorial and may include allergy, environmental factors such as dust or pollution, bacterial infection, and/or fungus (either allergic, infective or reactive).
Symptoms include: Nasal congestion; facial pain; headache; fever; general malaise; thick green or yellow discharge; feeling of facial 'fullness' worsening on bending over; aching teeth.
In a small number of cases, chronic maxillary sinusitis can also be brought on by the spreading of bacteria from a dental infection.
A more recent, and still debated, development in chronic sinusitis is the role that fungus may play. Fungus can be found in the nasal cavities and sinuses of most patients with sinusitis, but can also be found in healthy people as well. It remains unclear if fungus is a definite factor in the development of chronic sinusitis and if it is, what the difference may be between those who develop the disease and those who do not.
Treatment
therapeutic measures range from the medicinal to the traditional and may include nasal irrigation or jala neti using a warm saline solution, analgesics (such as Aspirin, Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen), hot drinks including tea and chicken soup, inhaling steam, over-the-counter decongestants and nasal sprays, and getting plenty of rest. If sinusitis doesn't improve within 48 hours, or is causing significant pain, one should see a doctor, who may prescribe antibiotics or nasal steroids. If the recommended doses and duration of antibiotic treatment(s) are ineffective, one should reconsult a doctor; who may suggest further treatment by a specialist.
For chronic or recurring sinusitis, referral to an otolaryngologist is indicated for more specialist assessment and treatment, which may include nasal surgery.
A relatively recent advance in the treatment of sinusitis is a type of surgery called FESS - functional endoscopic sinus surgery, whereby normal clearance from the sinuses is restored by removing the anatomical and pathological obstructive variations that predispose to sinusitis. This replaces prior open techniques requiring facial or oral incisions and refocuses the technique to the natural openings of the sinuses instead of promoting drainage by gravity.Another recently developed treatment is Balloon Sinuplasty™. This method, similar to balloon angioplasty used to "unclog" arteries of the heart, utilizes balloons in an attempt to expand the openings of the sinuses in a less invasive manner. Its final role in the treatment of sinus disease is still under debate but appears promising.
.Nasal irrigation and flush promotes sinus cavity health, and patients with chronic sinusitis including symptoms of facial pain, headache, halitosis, cough, anterior rhinorrhea (watery discharge) and nasal congestion found nasal irrigation to be "just as effective at treating these symptoms as the drug therapies." In other studies, "daily hypertonic saline nasal irrigation improves sinus-related quality of life, decreases symptoms, and decreases medication use in patients with frequent sinusitis," and is "recommended as an effective adjunctive treatment of chronic sinonasal symptoms.
Nasal congestion
Nasal congestion is the blockage of the nasal passages usually due to membranes lining the nose becoming swollen from inflamed blood vessels. It is also known as nasal blockage, nasal obstruction, and stuffy nose. Significant congestion may interfere with sleep, cause snoring, and can be associated with sleep apnea.A blocked nose can also cause mild facial and head pain, and a degree of discomfort.
Treatment
Drinking plenty of fluids, more than usual, aids the body in excising the virus and clearing congestion. Water, fruit juice, teas, and carbonated drinks are recommended by medical experts to resolve congestion, and rest and sleep are also suggested behaviours in a case of nasal congestion. Increasing air moisture with a humidifier or a steamy bath or shower usually helps patients dissolve the congestion and relieve discomfort.
A cause of nasal congestion may also be due to an allergic reaction caused by hay fever, so avoiding allergens is a common remedy if this becomes a confirmed diagnosis. Antihistamines and decongestants can provide significant symptom relief although they do not cure hay fever. Antihistamines may be given continuously during pollen season for optimum control of symptoms.
Topical decongestants should only be used by patients for a maximum of 3 days in a row, because rebound congestion may occur in the form of rhinitis medicamentosa.
The ancient use of nasal irrigation, which originated from the Yoga practice of jala neti, is also said to help reduce nasal congestions. It involves rinsing the nasal cavity regularly with salty water.
Alternately thrusting the tongue against the roof of the mouth and pressing between the eyebrows with a finger for approximately thirty seconds can Loosen congestion. This method causes the vomer bone, which runs through the nasal passages to the mouth, to rock back and forth, forcing sinuses to drain.
Topical decongestants
Topical decongestants are decongestants applied directly to the nasal cavity. By applying them directly to the site of action, topical decongestants relieve nasal congestion . Topical decongestants should only be used by patients for a maximum of 3 days in a row, because rebound congestion may occur .
Rebound effect is the tendency of a medication to affect a return of the symptom being treated when the medication is discontinued or when it is no longer effective. In extreme cases, the symptom will be more pronounced after the medication is withdrawn than before it was used.
Examples of topical decongestants
Ephedrine
Oxymetazoline
Phenylephrine
Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride
Tramazoline
Xylometazoline

It is worth looking at why then get congested in the first place. It does sound like you may have an allergy and if you do then avoiding certain foods could relieve the symptoms.

Your bowels are impacted. Therefore what can't get out is recycled through out the rest of your body. Try using a stack of books a short stool 6-8 inches high and put your feet up . This straightens the colon and allows more "material" to pass out of the body. Other wise the colon is pinched with our feet flat on the floor.Even raising your feet to the toes during bowel movements will assist in straightening the colon a bit. Do a body cleans if you can. Dr. Hulda Clark and Dr.Linda Page have websites with cleanses. The master cleanse is combine 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice or lime juice, 2 tablespoons of genuine maple syrup, and 1/109 more or less) of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in 10 oz. (300 ml.) of cold to medium hot water. Drink six to twelve glasses each day. This is a fast to cleanse the body so consult a dr. first.Check master cleanse on the web for further info. your body is tyring to detox by getting rid of the mucus. Stay away from mucus forming foods. Eat healthy foods 80% raw and 20% cooked do not use a microwave. Stay away from processed foods, heavy salt and sugar/ alcohol products are a very heavy burden on the system. Most of all consult a naturalpath, dr., etc. before starting any cleanse as there may be a "healing crisis" as you detox. This will last for 3-4 days as your body purges the toxins that have accumulated in your body over the years/ decades.

Acupressure does it better than anything. if you can't get to a professional, Google 'sinus acupressure points' to see the points you should press (it's better than me trying to describe it).
Also, lay off dairy and caffeine, and steam your head with some Menthol crystals in hot water.

try having (a vegetable sushi with) Wasabi Sauce
the strong 'fumes' will clear your sinuses in seconds.
also you may want to try Horseradish sauce in a sandwich. try the sandwich pal brand.
try exercising. as you exert yourself you will find your sinuses will clear.
try a rest with your nose covered. it may feel a bit stifling at first, but persevere... in a minute or two it will clear.
do 15 pushups (same idea of exercising)

Use a facial steamer, put Menthol and Tea Tree Oil in (careful not to use too much, it'll blow your head off) and then relax over it for about 5 mins, 3 or 4 times a day - that should sort it!
Also make sure you remove known allergens, such as bed mites in your pillow or dairy produce (well known to increase mucus production)
Good luck!

Try cutting down on dairy products for a while. Dairy products cause increased mucus. I often find that I get a little blocked after drinking a lot of milk. GSE (grape Seed Extract) can be bought from the health store and is excellent for sinusitis. Taking Garlic capsules and/or euchanacea will also help. I find that euchanacea is excellent when I feel a cold coming on as it dries me up quickly.

First of all you need to increase your water / tea drinking to help liquefy the stuff. Try facial steam baths with some Peppermint Oil or Menthol. Can also come from tea or cough drops. Just pour steaming hot water in a plastic bowl. A couple drops of oil, bag of tea or the cough drop go into the hot water. Place your head carefully over the steam, place a towel over your head that less steam goes to the sides. Keep breathing though your nose. If not poss. breath through your mouth, but keep trying the nose. It may makes you cough. It will also loosing up mucous in your lungs. If this does not help alone you may want to try an OTC mucous liquifyer.

Depending on how chronic your symptoms are, alternative medicine may not be able to provide you much comfort. Indeed, if your problem is quite bothersome, you may wish to schedule an appointment with a ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist. It could be that you have polyps within the sinus cavity, giving a permanent stuffed-up feeling.
