'Zovirax' cold sore cream is excellent. At the tingle it can stop a cold sore appearing, if it does appear then it heals it quicker than anything I've used. Don't pick at it!!! It will scar. Always use clean hands to apply and use as directed. Accept it WILL take time to go, usually about 10 days.

If you have medical insurance, go to the Dr and get a percription for an antiviral med, used for genital herpes. It makes a cold sore disappear quickly, or prevent it from getting huge if taken at first sign.

ia have always found the quickest way to get rid of them is to dab a bit of aftersave on but be warned it stings big time

My daughter gets cold sores. If she drinks orange juice or is exposed to the sun for to long she gets cold sores. She used abreva but she said it didn't work very well. She went to the doctor and they gave her a prescription for Zoverax pill form. She takes it when she feels one coming on and it seems to work. She also takes Lysine pills daily.

There is a lot you can do. First, because a cold sore (or any virus) can't survive without heat put Ice on it. Sounds weird I know, but it works. Second, I rub a cream mixture of asprin and vaseline on it. It's ugly but works great because again, the asprin kills the fever. Other fixes and a lot of people find them helpful would be to get a prescription cream from your doctor. I used to get reoccuring cold sores until someone explained that you can kill the virus with cold. Now whenever I feel on coming on I immediately put an ice cube on it and it never surfaces. This has worked 100% of the time if I catch it right away. If you don't, try the asprin and vaseline overnight. When you wake it should be gone. Also, the recommendations about Lysine are also good ones. Make sure you take a multi-vitamin to support the uptake of all related vitamins and minerals needed to fight off the virus and take a Lysine supplement with it. BUT remember an ice cube doesn't cost anything and can save you a lot of time and energy. I can't recommend this enough.
