How to quit smoking?
I've heard "Cold Turkey" is the best way, and I have quit that way several times. But after even several months and not a cigarette on my mind, my true question is is how do you keep from that instant "WANT" out of thin air especially after something sets you off and makes you want one? What is good to DO instead of bumming that one smoke that eventually leads you into buying a pack and starting all over. It's the violent thoughts and rage that make me grab a smoke this way, and THE PATCH only wacks me out and gets me in a strange high!

I have also noticed when I quit, it seems like everyone I see at the red light is "puffing it up!" I realize this is just pyschological recognition and it does not bother me, but I have smoked for ove 20 years.

"They" also say if you quit smoking you will save tons of money, which is correct but I notice I spend MORE on food a day (3 times more) than if I smoke. I know that is healthier than smoking, but with the greasy "QUICK" trash to choose from especially when you are a hypoglycemic person and cannot wait to fix something later on, you wonder if you are going to die from smoking or a heart attack. What a horror, if I could only go back 20 some odd years! I hope they, the legislations hang the tobacco companies high, which will never happen. If it wasn't tobacco, it would be something else that takes your money and health. I guess life is just a B@#$#!

i used to be a smoker. i cold turkeyed it and that was over 3 years ago. find one thing that you love a friend, relative a loved one like me, and do it for them...if not for you. i see it all the time, people lighting up in front of me asking me if i want one, i say no, its gross and i quit for someone i love.

I read a book by Allen Carr or karr or Kar or Car, I am not sure bout the name. it was quite helpful to overcome the psychological addiction.
After I quit smoking his way, cigarette smoke never bothered me again, I didnt pay any attention.

try hypnosis. If you made it past several months without a cigarrete, then it is not a chemical thing anymore-its psychological that you want a cigarrete.

I think the best aid I have found so far in quiting smoking is Noni Juice. It stimulates a neurochemical cascade not unlik that of Nicotine, without the addictive and damaging consequences. Quite to the contrary, its side benefits are too many to number.

you can quit smoking by smoking alot on one day and then you will get tired of smoking and you will eventually quit another way is to stop buying ciggrettes and don't smoke

I think your question is an excellent summary of the situation that most smokers find themselves in ... I'm in exactly the same position - have just stopped (again!) - 6 days now - after 30/day since December ... No patch, no nothing... but ... will power ... and SPORT ! I think sport, and the ensuing self knowledge/respect, are perhaps the way out of this ...

I do triathlon, and smoking like I did is in no way compatible with the life I want to lead...

Think about sport ... You need to give time to sport to make your life different, better... To make your life whole, healthy, clean, and hopefully, cigarette free ...

I will probably fall again, but then I will also stop again ... for the same reasons ...

We need to find pride in ourselves, see what addiction really is, and be stronger than the cigarettes that chain our lives ...
