Mangosteen is a tropical fruit found primarily in Southeast Asia (it is also grown in the Hawai'ian Islands). This fruit has been used in folk medicine in many Asian countries, possibly for centuries.
Altho' the fruit itself is not available in the continental US, Mangosteen juice & juice blends are starting to become somewhat popular in this country.
Mangosteen juice may or may not be the "super elixir" that some manufacturers claim. However, there are some studies of Mangosteen extracts have shown it to have some possible health/medicinal benefits. Lab tests have shown that these extracts can stop the growth of certain bacteria and fungi. Mangosteen supposedly has very high levels of antioxidants, especially xanthones (a class of phytonutrients).
More studies undoubtedly need to be done to determine if Mangosteen can be used as effective treatment for arthritis, cancer & other disorders.
I use a Mangosteen juice blend every once in a while as an alternate source of antioxidants. The juice blend that I use includes black cherry, blueberry, Pomegranate, raspberry & Cranberry juices. When I use the stuff, I'm only drinking 1 or 2 oz per day.
When I'm not using Mangosteen, I sometimes use small amounts of Acai or Goji juice instead. However, most of my antioxidants come herbs/spices & from various types of (dark-colored) fruit juices (blueberry, cherry, Pomegranate, black raspberry, etc).

unfortunately - usually with this kinda name its a USA business trying to make big bucks with something that doesn't really work - it sounds like a brand name. find out the ingrediants first - it will prob. be much cheaper buying those separately. or go and see a nutritionist

Sounds like Tahitian Noni. I love that stuff! A little expensive, but really worth it. If mangosteen works for you, go for it. If not, try Tahitian Noni. Get the real stuff, not the knock off you can get at Wal mart.

The mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree,
Medicinal Uses:
The dried fruits of the tree are shipped from Singapore to Calcutta and to China for medicinal use. The sliced and dried rind is powdered and administered to overcome dysentery. Made into an ointment, it is applied on eczema and other skin disorders. The rind decoction is taken to relieve diarrhea and cystitis, gonorrhea and gleet and is applied externally as an Astringent lotion. A portion of the rind is steeped in water overnight and the infusion given as a remedy for chronic diarrhea in adults and children. Filipinos employ a decoction of the leaves and bark as a febrifuge and to treat thrush, diarrhea, dysentery and urinary disorders. In Malaya, an infusion of the leaves, combined with unripe banana and a little Benzoin is applied to the wound of circumcision. A root decoction is taken to regulate menstruation. A bark extract called "amibiasine", has been marketed for the treatment of amoebic dysentery.

Yes. Although it is supposed to be great for you and help you in all kinds of ways, it has no claims. I don't want to bash something that has potential, but it's all off of testimonies and test tube results. It does have that to go off of, but nothing on what happens in the digestive tract and even when it enters the blood stream. I was personally very open with it, but my body didn't want it. To me it tasted like a deer's heart (please don't ask how I know of what a deer heart tastes like). For all you need to know on Mangosteen, you can look it up at betterlifeunlimited.com. They are a third party that lays it all out for what it is. You will find it under one hit wonders. If you like it and it seems to help you in any way, great. I just also looked at it at a Christian point of view wondering 'why would everything we need be in one fruit in one tiny part of the world and why if we did need it would God have created every other fruit?' It can be beneficial like many other fruits, but it can vary for each person. I hope this can help.
