Hot salty water gargles are great. If you want something to sooth you, hot tea w/ honey and lemon also. If you are above 21 - a hot toddy (amaretto w/ a splash of hot water and a little lemon on the rim) is just great :)

sounds distasteful, but the best thing is to gargle with salt dissolved in warm water every few hours. Drink tea with honey, suck on hard candies, such as peppermints.

Gargle with warm salt water, sniff ocean saline nasal spray, drink hot drinks such as tea with lemon wedges, suck on hard candies such as lemon drops or Peppermint. do not whisper as it is more straining on your voice than talking normally.

Hey, I've got a sort throat too. Fancy that. The other suggestions here are good ones. I usually use gargling with warm salty water, Hall's cough lozenges and when I want to sleep, warm whiskey with honey and lemon. A good natural remedy for mild sore throat is Slippery Elm lozenges; I could only find them in the states -- Thayer's Slippery Elm Throat Lozenges: 'prized by opera singers' it says on the box!
