It takes about half an hour and it does work. It is a form of Valium, I was prescribed it a few years ago and I found it to be invaluble at the time. |

Ativan from my standpoint (I'm a nurse, I dispense it regularly) is a valuable tool in reducing anxiety caused by stress or other factors as well as an effective agent for sleep if taken before bed, I have taken some before a surgical procedure done on my eyes and I must say I was still quite lucid and my anxiety over the procedure was gone in about a half hour.-----Levi went a bit deeper than I did......and he's correct, uses are different I suppose. |

It works within about 30-45 minutes, and it works for me. I take it once every other day (or whenever I need it) and it really calms me down. |

20 minutes to a half hour. If you are having a severe panic attack, put it under your tongue to let it swtart melting so you will absorb it faster. Yes, it works but it is potentially addictive |

kicks in 1/2 hour to an hour after taken it. It works, will make you feel dizzy, maybe tired. And you'll sleep like a rock when you do go to bed. If the effects are to intense, then ask your doc to scale back on the dose. a little goes a long way. |

Ativan does nothing at all for me. I use a much better medication for anxiety called Xanax. |

does it really work? no. It's like putting a bandaid on a cancerous wound. It'll cover up the conditions but won't get to the heart of the issue so it'll just leave you dependant on the meds to feel a sense of normality without actually getting to the root of the problem. It's no different then drinking your problems away except for the doctor's prescription. If you're having a lot of anxiety, 9 times out of 10 it's situational. A bad relationship, or horrid job, etc. You can utilize the drug as a means of working out the problem with more ease, but in my experience I've never seen anyone work through the problem but think the Ativan or Prozac is the cure. It's a catalyst to the cure that takes the edge off, but it doesn't "really" work. Use it to help you through your emotional stuff then get off of it. |

Ativan works instantly. Well when I say instantly I mean as soon as it gets absorbed from the stomach. Its effects can begine within 15 - 20 minutes but it will take about 20 - 40 minutes for it to get completely absorbed, 1 hour at the most. After that it should be exerting its full effect. If Ativan does not work it may be due to prior tolerance to other sedative day tranquillisers or sleeping pills which most prescription tranx and sleepers are cross tolerant with Benzodiazepines such as Ativan. After a few weeks of regular use however a lot of people find that drugs such as Ativan and other benzodiazepine or benzodiazepine like drugs stop working due to tolerance and the only continuing benefit is the suppresion of withdrawal effects. Withdrawal symptoms from Ativan can include seizures (which can be life threatening), psychosis, agitation, depression. Prolonged usage can lead to blunting of emotions, poor memory and deteriorating physical and mental health similar to chronic alcohol usage (minus the organ damage). |

Yes, it works. It should start working about 30-45 minutes after taking it. ***PLEASE only take it as directed. Never take more than the directions on the label. |
