My kids are having their tonsils out on Thurs. They are aage 6 and 3. I have read a bunch of horror stories online and I'm hoping that this experinece will not be that bad. If anyone has had experience with this or could give me some suggestions on what are good foods to eat afterwards I will take any suggestion. Thanks. Also is it really true that you can lose up to 10 lbs? That's half my 3 years weight almost.

they should enjoy it because after they have them taken out they have 2 eat icecream jello an all other soft food no solids 4 about a week and a half numbing the pain in their throat is mandatory so they should enjoy it |

Two of my seven children had their tonsils out at an early age. Before the procedure, I went to the local library and found a book for children on "Taking your tonsils Out!" Instead of the regular bedtime stories, I read the book to them. I told them to ask any questions that they had. The important thing is to tell them the truth. I was amazed at the questions they had. "Will it hurt?" the answer is "Yes, it will hurt a little, your throat will feel kind of scratchy". Tell them all about what is going to happen. Then I made arrangements with my doctor to take them on a tour of the hospital where they were going. We showed them the room they they would be in, and introduced them to the nurses. They ended up being more excited about the ordeal then being scared. They looked forward to the jello and ice cream that we promised them. My 5 year old, after he woke up, whispered "Can I have a milkshake?" I went down to the hosptitals cafeteria and brought him one. Even though he only had a couple of sips, he thought it was great. We treated it as an event, we even took our camera and told him that this was going to be a special page in our scrapbook. If your child is prepared and there is no surprises, you will breeze through this. Just give yourself a little time to prepare them. Question number 2, not sure what you mean by half your 3 years weight???? If all you have to lose is 10 lbs then I would suggest cutting down on your fat in your diet have more vegetables on your plate and take the stairs instead of the elevator. Just a few minor adjustments and you will have the pounds gone in no time. |

Getting your tonsils out is no big deal I had my out at around 6, they should get a week or two off school I think. Make sure your Dr. is kid friendly as so they don't get overly nervous. Once again no big deal just have Ice Cream ready at home! |

I had my tonsils taken out, and they'll probably feel bad the first couple of days, but follow the doctors instructions perfectly. I'd say popsicles the first couple of days, and maybe even some smoothie things called Nouriches, both will quench their thirst and hunger(a bit) then after their throat feels better, applesauce and yogurt was what I ate. Icecream is good, but not the rough kind. The creamy kind, Sherbert is good. Thaw it though. Make sure nothing is rough, or back to popsicles, or nothing, because that'll open scars and maybe make they're throat bleed. And after the first week and a half, some super-soft oatmeal. Cut it up thin, and cook it good. No juice because that is acidic, nothing acidic for that matter. You can have a little bit of milk after a while. DO NOT FEED THEM NORMAL FOOD!!! No matter how much they beg. If your children are in school, I'd excuse them for a while. Let them rest a whole lot, don't let them run amok. I'd suggest popsicles the first few days, and some smoothie things called Nouriche. After that applesauce, soup broth, and yogurt too. After a week or so, try some fine, well cooked oatmael. After a couple of weeks, some soft macaroni. They will look gaunt, but don't worry, they will be fine. They will throw up, but it's fine. Yes, they can lose up to ten pounds. However feed them the soft stuff, and they might not lose that much. I doubt the horror stories are true. If they talked about your throat being numb, that part is true. I reapeat, follow the doctors instructions PERFECTLY!!! After a couple of weeks, you could try SOFT macaroni. They'll probably heal in no time, being so young... |

For the Tonsils sugery, It's pretty simple .. you just need to be calm not to frighten your cute little babies, After the surgery is done, your babies will complain from pain in their throat. and the best food for them is Cold Food, Like Jelly, Ice Cream and stuff like that .. it will be so great food for them as it's food that babies like and the cold feel of it will cause contractions in their blood veins .. this should do the following: 1. speeds up the recovery. 2. reduce the pain. and it will take them like 2 weeks and they will be as good as new ;-) |

Doctors used to recommend that children have their tonsils and adenoids removed (and boys circumcised) as a routine measure to avoid infections. That has been rethought in recent years and not recommended unless conditions require it. The tonsillectomy experience is much like having streptococcus sore throat. Ice cream and jello are in order. ng kids tend to heal quicker than adults from a tonsillectomy. I had mine out at age 18 and was miserable for 3 weeks and lost almost 15 pounds. My niece had her's out at age 5 and was fine a week later. Stick to soft foods - the kids probably won't really want anything with any substance for the first day or so - so popsicles and italian ices are helpful -make sure they are getting plenty of fluids. Soft foods like mashed potatoes and tomato soup were my niece's choice when she had hers out. Steer clear of milk things for the first few days. The may increase phlegm and make the kids want to cough and gag. After a few days they may anjoy some ensure type fortified milkshake or something similar. Don't push them too hard to eat for the first day or so... and let them try what they want (to a point) after i had mine out (after about a week or so) all i wanted was pretzels so i could lick the salt off. Beyond that, make sure they are getting their antibiotics after the surgery, make sure that everyone is washing their hands like they should. Good luck |

well, I too had tonsil prob in my childhood.Though with homeopathic medication is subsided, but took an aggraveted form at the age of 23.I got them removed! As docs say, operation hurts more to adults. My expereince says, though post operation it took 10 days to heal, the pains of operation is worth. Post opration, i seldome face any throat infection and am keeping a much better health. No worries. The operation is minor and very routine.Nothing to worry about. Regarding weight loss, as for almost 10 days one survive on icecream, and only when one starts eating so much of icecream that u realize that evene the best icecream can not replace a meal...u eat less n u lose weight. No worries.Once u recover the operation- u can eat anything any amount. As, in your case kids are young, they will heal very fast. Best wishes.Cheers! |

I had my tonsils out when I was 10. Ice cream is okay, but it's really creamy and kind of thick in the throat. Sherbet is better. Popsicles are really good too. Applesauce, pudding. If you're worried about the weight just give them a lot of ice cream and pudding for a couple of days. As they start to get better, try giving them some jello first and see how it goes down since it is a semi-solid. You don't want to try with an actual solid and have them be in pain. It's not as bad as you hear. Good luck. |
