My brother takes Epilim with good results. Its an anti-epileptic. But some people gain weight and have nausea when on it, so it's not for everyone.

My friend who got clusters (migraine on migraine on migraine) said the only thing that provided immediate relief was oxygen (ie his oxygen tank) I asked him about massage areas as I get just the occasionaly migraine and he said they were all BS and the medicine and oxygen were the only things for him. Sorry if that wasn't what you were looking for.

I get migraines a couple of times a year. If I can take a couple of Tylenol or Ibuprofen in the first few minutes when I see "shimmering" (that's how I know it's coming) - the migraine will be far far less severe. If I just can't find it quickly - headache and nausea will come to where I need to lye down. Nip it in the bud is my advice.

I suffer from migraines and its a bummer. I have found that if I take a Phenergan (anti nausea pill) prescribed by my doc at the very start of one, before the nausea starts I have more than likely stopped it from coming on stronger. I have 4 kids and do not have time for down time but if I take it asap , I may get a little tired but it sure helps. Another remedy might be is using the acupressure point at the back of your big toe.,(the place between the small and the big part of the toe) you will find it when you feel the pain. Press down for like 30-40 seconds or until pain subsides. if the pain is on your left side use the acupressure point on the opposite side. Good Luck

I've had migraines since I was around 8 yrs. old...I took Cafergot (sp?) at one time. Now I've found that if I drink a cup of coffee when I first notice a migraine coming on (visual disturbances), it reduces the severity and duration of the headache and once the visual disturbance goes away I'm at least able to function. My sister-in-law has migraines really bad and she swears by Maxalt. I think it is prescription only. She's a teacher and she says that's the only thing she's found to let her function. She and I both feel like hormones have something to do with the headaches, too. Good luck...

If you do not want to take perscription pills for migraines you could try Excedrin Migraine. This is the only type of OTC medicine that has ever worked for my migraines. It has a pain killer and a bit of caffeine. Just a hint of caution though, if your migraine is already full-force, it may not work. I try to take it the second I have any of the symptoms.

One relief tip is to try Peppermint. Peppermint pressure point cream, Peppermint Oil, or pretty much anything with Peppermint will help a migraine. It depends on where you get your migraines. Mine are often above my eyes and so I like to rub it in right below my eyebrows. The massaging makes the pressure lighter. I also massage my temples, the back of my neck just below my hairline, and my forehead. My friend is Iranian and she swears by this old custom: take a long, thin piece of cloth and wrap it snugly around your head. I usually only do this when I am in dire pain, but somehow--i dont know how--it does help to relieve pain and pressure. But definitely try the Peppermint because it really does help.

i had migraines for 11 years..horrible, sometimes two , three times a week. This was way before Imitrex and the other meds today. they could only give me something to put me to sleep until it went away. later it was Imitrex..i used the spray. still two or three a week at times..i tried all the therapies, herbs, vitamins. Lavender, if someone told me or i read it i did it...you know how it is with a migraine you will do anything to make the pain go away...for three years now i have been giving myself..b12 shots...start off with 1ml a day in the muscle right below your waist. i know these shots at a Dr. cost about $40 ea and Dr won't tell you that migraines are caused by low b12...i am lucky..i live in the rep of panama now and i can buy it over the counter and give myself shots...it really works...it take awhile to get it into your system but once you do you will not have any more migraines...i never found anything else that worked.

Hi-try massage or reiki healing, it is very relaxing, but first try to pin point what is the trigger for your migranes, then elimate the trigger, like smells or bright lights or highly stressful situations then try massage or reiki. Good luck

i have my husband squeeze the pressure point between my thumb and index finger for a few minutes. usually it helps pretty well. if you have the time take a hot bath and drink some wine or beer, and then take a nap, that's the only think that really works for me

Superb answer, A Healthier You! The only things I can add to that are: 1) the Peppermint and Lavender blend works for 90% of the people I recommend it to. 2) helichrysum is super expensive, so you can substitute 4 drops of Clove essential oil.

Natural Progesterone Cream and Migraine Headaches

Transdermal application of topical Progesterone immediately at the onset of a headache, has successfully aborted significant numbers of migraines. A suggested amount is up to 1 teaspoon of Progesterone cream. This simple and often effective treatment, is worth trying with most female migraine sufferers.

Migraine headaches that occur with regularity in women only at premenstrual times are most likely due to estrogen dominance. Estrogen causes dilation of blood vessels, and thus contributes to the cause(s) of migraines. Dr. John Lee states that one of the many virtues of natural Progesterone is that it helps restore normal vascular tone, counteracting the blood vessel dilation that causes the headache. He states that once again, Progesterone is safe and treats the cause in a normal, physiologic way. The more dangerous pharmaceutical drugs can be reserved for the rare case that does not respond completely to Progesterone.

--------------------------------------...
Headache Essential Oil:
Mix -
12 drops Lavender
6 drops Pepeprmint
4 drops Eucalyptus or Grapefruit
one oz. of massage oil

Use only a small amount on the temples, back of the head and top of the face just inside the hairline.

Neck and shoulder relief for tension migraines:
10 drops Lavender
7 drops Marjoram
5 drops Roman Chamomile
1 drop Helichrysum

Mix together. Use a small amount on the temples, back of the head, and top of the face just under the hair line.

(Larissa Jones-Evergreen Aromatherapy)

* Also, the herb Feverfew taken on a daily basis has been proven to reduce the intensity and/or frequency of migraines.
* Try 5-HTP for chronic migraines.
* Liver toxins are the cause of many migraines, so a liver cleanse might be helpful.

Foods that trigger headaches include cheeses, nitrates in hot dogs and luncheon meats, MSG, chocolate, citrus fruits.
