Hydrogen peroxide murders cold sores....it's incredibly effective. Apply it to the area (or just stick it in your mouth), but don't swallow. If it ever becomes too painful to deal with, mix some baking soda in as well (/put it in your mouth), and um, make sure you don't use a concentration higher than 3.5% (because then it will really burn...) I use to have problems with cold sores, I discovered peroxide, and it's worked wonders for the matter. |

zinc, found in diaper Rash cream works WONDERS! It dries them out completely and soothes them, and keeps saliva, food and other dirt and germs out! Try it! It speeds the healing process like crazy! Just a dab-- cover it in the cream. We have used Desitin-- it really does the trick! Good luck! :O) |

My cause is same as yours. But when I get them, I drink more water and they go away on their own. I don't put anything on them, it just makes it worse and messy. Drink more water and you'll have same results as using Abriva ($13.00 for a little tube!). |

It's neither homegrown nor inexpensive, but the over-the-counter product abreva is the only really effective cold sore remedy I've ever come across. Keep using it for a few days after the sore goes away to keep it from coming back. |
