My girlfriend suffers terribly with cystitis. We think it's bacterial but could possibly be interstitial cystitis. Antibiotics do not cure it. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cure or symptom relief to at least let her get on with her day?

Are these antibiotics she's tried specific? When I had a severe bout of it once I was given antibiotic that didn't touch it at all. I had to produce a urine sample which was sent off for analysis and the antibiotic was changed to something specific for the bug causing my problem. Just a suggestion. Have you asked for a referral to the Urology Dept of your hospital? She needs specialist help - she cant be expected to suffer forever. It is extremely painful. |

ouch, thats a horrible thing to suffer with, i used to suffer with it myself yhen i was younger, what i used to do was, always wear cotton pants, dont wear trousers they make it worse, drink lots of lemon and Barley water, and at night before bed apply lots of natural youguart both inside and out not nice but i found that it worked well, dont add anything to the bath water,, just a cup of table salt,, dont use any perfumed soap. when she,s in the house dont wear any underwear, let the air get to it,,its horrid but it will get better soon hope these tips do the trick |

Well If it is interstitial cystitis let me just start of by saying this is a miserable disease to live with and while there is no cure there are good treatments. I would reccomend she takes two pills. The first one is called Elmiron and the second one is Atarax. Elmiron helps strenthen the linging of the bladder and Atarax helps the flare ups. Also tell her to avoid food with nitrites, caffine, and red sauce. Allergies and stress can also trigger the disease. |

Nice of you to help your girlfriend & maybe i can be of some use .Hopefully she's been advised of the hygeinic & personal things she needs to do as well as avoid chemical irritants soap, bubblebaths,if not contact me and i will let her no this is very important. Then try the natural route as antibiotics only add to the problem, stop all caffine drinks like tea ,coffe, cola instead drink plenty of water as well as 300mls of pure Cranberry juice daily its great for boosting the immune system, vit c intake, helping the body to fight back, get in carton at any supermarket or tablet form(recomended). Most other red fruits straws, cherries, pink grapefruit fight off the bacteria so eat daily.diet is very important as well as the personal side so all must be done to improve symptoms and lessen the attacks.this really is the way for her to go ,hope it helps ,kaz x |

you "think" it's bacterial? this means she hasn't been to a doctor and been tested? Did she take antibiotics that she had left from another illness? Silly, foolish people.... she needs to see a doctor for appropriate testing, the right antibiotic could do her a great deal of good. For short term relief, go to the drugstore and get Azo. |

Take your girlfriend to the Urologist to make sure it is interstitial cystitis. I have lived with IC for years. There is an Rx called Elmirion. There is also a product called Cysto Protek that I have ordered online that really has helped me. As far as pain goes, she would probably need to get a Rx pain killer. She should soak in a warm bath. Stay away from antibiotics! They actually create more of a problem for those who have interstitial cystitis. |

Cranberry Juice is supposed to be good for preventing cystitis so it might be worth her drinking at least one glass of that. There are many natural remedies for it as well. Try somewhere like Holland and Barratts. Good luck. |
