They aren't even real doctors. They get you to come back for "treatments" over and over and over and over again. No, not recommended. Go to a real doctor and get a treatment plan.

I crack myself better than the chiropracter. There is no getting rid of a lesion in the lower back. You can only be made more comfortable. If I had to pay for the chiro out of my own pocket, I wouldn't go. In fact, I'm cancelling my next appointment because I found something that is working to get rid of my lower back pain. I bought an orthopedic pillow at Walmart last week for $20.00. Hard as a rock and weighs about 5 pounds. The next morning after first use I felt like I had been to the gym and had a heavy workout. But no more back pain!

I think that chiropractors are nothing more then snake oil salesmen... I don't know how anyone can look at me a straight face tell me that having him do his thing help my son with his chronic ear infection... no chiro will ever be worth much in my book.. I trust physio before chiro....
talk to most ER doctors and they recomend physio over chiro

Do NOT go to a chiropractor. They aren't doctors--not real medical doctors. Cracking your spine is NOT good for you. You should see a real doctor for this.

Both of my parents see a chiropractor regularly also. And after having two of my car wrecks (not my fault, in case anyone was wondering) I went to see him. He helped me sooo much. He was also able to help me when I had a pinched nerve that was so bad that I had to literally sleep sitting straight up. I couldn't even lean my head over on anything it hurt so bad. I had to get up and stand several times during the night to keep the pain away also. Within a day and half the pain went away. I can't recommend a chiropractor enough! My chiropractor uses a lot of different methods to do his work. I always feel so relaxed when leaving his office.
Not all chiropractors have a good name though. Some WILL make you come back again and again. Try asking around in your area for a chiropractor with a good reputation. My chiropractor ALMOST ALWAYS gets it done in one shot.

It works great for me. It may be a little sore after you're adjusted but thats from the muscles that have been misaligned as well. It doesn't hurt if you are out of alignment because it puts you back in place.

i was a chiropractic assistant for several years at 2 different health clinics. and despite what the first person answering your question says, yes they are real doctors and in fact have to go to medical school first, and THEN go to a school of chiropractic care which is several hundred more hours of classes and training that a general practitioner or regular family doctor. chiropractors are also licensed in pediatrics and ob/gyn... my first doctor/boss delivered his own daughter in the hospital because was a REAL doctor licensed at the hospital.
a chiropractor will take x-rays and do several tests (all non invasive, no cutting or poking) to determine the cause of your symptoms. they WILL give you a diagnosis and go over a treatment plan to best suite your specific condition. these treatment plans are usually at least several weeks long as the body takes time to heal itself. they WILL NOT give your drugs to cover the pain. there may be more involved in your treatment plan than just getting adjustments, the doctor may also prescribe massage, accupuncture, physical therapy, special exercises or any combination of these things.
i have arthritis and spinal degenerative disease and my chiro keeps me feeling good and strong.
4 years ago i wrecked my car twice in 6 weeks, crashed snowboarding, and broke 2 ribs in my martial arts class... all this within 6 months... because of my chiropractic care i was up and at 100% again within a few months. no visits to my general practitioner, no drugs, no surgeries... just my commitment to recovery.

Both of my parents see a chiropractor on a regular basis and they both have few back problems, despite the fact that they both have back trouble on both sides of the family (all of my grandparents had back surgery). I also have a colleague who was facing medical discharge from the Air Force Reserve due to back injuries -- they said she'd be on pain medication for the rest of her life and would never again be worldwide qualified -- but she went to see a chiropractor about seven months ago, and last week she had her flight physical and is now worldwide qualified again. From what I understand it's not magic (like you go in for one treatment and you're cured) but they can lessen pain and correct degenerative back problems to a certain degree.

Yes ,it can help some people. It has helped me.There are different types and I have 2 that I go to.One does manipulation and the other one uses an activator thing on you. They both help and there usually isn't any pain.It feels weird but I like it.The activator feels like a staple gun being pressed against you and the manipulation feels like getting snapped or popped.

Yes I've tried it and totally support the profession. Back pain can be caused by many things (kidney problems, cancers, etc.) but more commonly it is from misaligned vertebrae that in turn cause discs to bulge and hence pinched nerves and pain. Adjustments are typically not painful and offer extreme relief from tension and pain as the bones are placed back where they belong. Now, and adjustment may prove uncomfortable if the pain is severe and accute as any touching of the spine my cause pain. If you are apprehensive, there are many different and light force techniques as options. My chiropractor offers instrument adjusting and traction techniques to the low back that are extemely gently and effective. Best of luck!

It does not really hurt, it is basically just stretching and cracking your back. You may feel a little pain right after the appointment, but within two days or so should feel a lot better. I have been suffering from severe back pain for years, and i think the chiropractor helps, but you have to keep going. It is not a permanent fix.
