Xanax. But if you wanna just try something over the counter, then try those sleep Aid Tablets with Doxylamine. They're little blue pills. One box usually has 32 of them. You can get them at Walmart for like $4.

I have tried many types, both over the counter and prescription. The best overall is LUNESTA 3mg. I take these on those nights that I keep staring at the clock and if not asleep in 30 minutes, I pop half of one and within 30 min I relax and go to sleep. There, for me, are no side effects. I wake up feeling WONDERFUL and get my 7 or 8 hours. If you get this prescription from your Dr. take a half of one the first time, to see if that's all it takes. For me that was all it took but once in a while I have to take a whole one. They are not addictive and the safest one I have used. If you want to take a natural alternative, you can take Melatonin 3mg. You can get these at the drug store in the herb and vitamin section or at your local grocery in the same section. It is a natural chemical we produce in our brain at night to help us go to sleep. The only problem with these is you have to be ready for bed and when you take one, you must submit to the sleepy feeling because it won't last a very long time. If you don't, you are done. Hope this helps

Don't use Simonex, I took two one night and I feel asleep for an hour and woke up with leg spasms. For an hour I couldn't sleep because I would be forced to move or even shake my legs. It was the worst feeling ever cause I really wanted to get back to sleep.

I just recently experienced major insomnia in which I actually couldn't sleep, after a week of NO sleep, and being close to a complete breakdown, I gave in to the sleeping pills. This is what I found:

*Melatonin just puts you to sleep but doesn't keep you asleep
*Tylenol PM made the problem worse
*Ambien makes you fall asleep but I would wake up and not be really awake when I did things at night
*LUNESTA is a lot softer, it puts you to sleep and you sleep in a more real way, not groggy, no sleep walking stuff....also, apparently you can take it for extended periods of time and go off eventually

LUNESTA became my crutch for a while. I'm able to sleep on my own now, and am only using an herbal supplement I got at Walmart called Calming Sleep from the Medicine Hunter...this seems to be helping the root of my problem....but I doubt it would have put me out like the others did when in the middle of my sleep problems, but it appears to be helping me now that I can fall asleep on my own.

God bless....this is a miserable challenge.
