Good ole nasty tasting salt water gargle BUT.........I really don't think it's going to help in your case. Swollen glands and barely able to swallow??? Sounds like you may have a case of strep or something similar. Go to the doc before it becomes serious.

If you have been sick for four weeks now and the glands are swollen, that is an indication you should see a doctor and he will probably start you on a round of antibiotics. A cold should not last for four weeks. Until then, you can try gargling with warm salt water and spray your throat with something like Cloraseptic, but I do not know a remedy for the swollen glands. Although it is difficult to swallow, be sure that you continue to intake plenty of fluids so you do not dehydrate.

Gargling with warm salted water usually soothes a sore throat. If you've been sick for 4 weeks, you might want to see a doctor... Just to be on the safe side.

warm water with lemon juice and honey. tea with honey, Echinacea tea and honey. gargle with salt and warm water a few times a day. and then if that doesnt help, bite the bullet and go to the doctor. honestly if you've been sick for 4 weeks now?? you really should see a doctor, it could be more serious than a homeopathic remedy can cure....

If it was 4 days I'd say do what everyone is saying about salt & water, or Id' suggest getting some eucaliptis essential oils and putting it in a pot of water and bring it to a boin an ddo an inhalation.... but seeing as it's been 4 weeks, it could be a serious bacterial infection and your going to need meds. Most colds and flus clear up after a week or two at the most.

I agree with the salt water. Gargle with it often.
You might also try Apple Cider Vinegar. Gargle with it just like the salt water. I have a friend who uses it every time she gets a sore throat & has good results. I hope your throat gets to feeling better. Oh & also take vitamin C!

Sounds like it could be strep if it is hanging on that long. Have someone look in your throat for redness with white spots. If you have a fever, then you need a doctor. Untreated strep can cause permanent damage. The swollen glands could be several things, even mumps. If you cannot swallow for weeke and are SURE it is your glands, this is more than a cold. For a regular sore throat, gargle often with warm salt water. Mix up some honey and lemon and take a teaspoon whenever you feel scratchy. This is good for coughs too.

My favorite is a mix of honey (20%) and brandy (80%) - best taken in the evening. This kills a lot of bacteria.
In your case, you seem to have an advanced infection, and are probably running a fever too. Try Echinacea and golden Seal Root extract for a few days (follow the directions,) and drink a lot of water.

There are one or two.
1. Gargle with salt water every 2-4 hours.
2. Follow this:
Take a quart of distilled water and add 2-3 heaping teaspoons of canning, pickling, or sea salt.
1 teaspoon Baking soda.
Mix well in quart bottle.
Get a syringe and irrigate your nasal passages. It is acceptable to breathe this solution as well.
Make sure that you get this in the back of your head, (around the back of the throat).
Benefits:
This is a solvent and will clean mucus, crusts, and other debris from the nasal passages. It also works as a Decongestant and improves nasal air flow. Because of the high content of salt (saline) it helps develop normal mucus from the sinuses.
This may sound kinda dumb but my ear, nose, and throat doctor gave me this recipe and it really, really works.
That is why after surgery is done on a patient and before closing the wound, they use normal saline to prevent wound infection.
Good luck with your cold.
If you have chest congestion, you can purchase a product known as mucinex. Take one or two every 6 hours, but no more than that a day. It you don't like pills, just get Robitussin expectorant or anything containing Guaifenesin. This will break up the chest congestion.
Drink plenty of fluids, especially fruit juice.
Bless your heart. I hope you get to feeling better.
If you have not been to a doctor, please go, you may have something more serious than a sore throat. Since it has been four weeks, I would suggest that you see a doctor ASAP. You could have what is called Mono. You could also have a Staph or Strep infection and will need antibiotics.
