I am always feel cold. My hands and feet are the coldest. It takes me a long time to fall asleep at night in the fall and spring when the apt building I live in don't have the heat on. I tried w/ an electric blanket which works and I fall asleep when they get warm, but I wake up in the middle of the night feeling burning heat even when I set it on low. What can I do to help my circulation? I smoke which makes it worse ( I know I have to quit). Thanks in advance.

I am a smoker and have cold hands and feet but also have poor circulation. For years my feet would cramp up so I decided to put on warm socks at night to sleep and it helps. Gloves could help your hands or they sell hand warmers too. The blood doesn't flow to your extremeties such as your hands and feet when you are laying down. When you get up....they are below your heart and you get more circulation to them. That's why they are usually warmer then. I have used an electric blanket and still sometimes use an electric throw, but you must be careful with them. I usually put it on top of my covers so I won't get burned. Besides quitting smoking, wear the socks and put a pillow under your feet to keep them elevated above your heart. Exercise, but not near bedtime, will increase your blood circulation. Stay warm! Sorry to hear they don't turn the heat on. That's just terrible as the weather is so unpredictable. Talk to your landlord and see if anything can be done about the heat. I live in an apartment but have control over my heat and pay for it. That's just inhumane. Because I have all electric heat and the bills are high, I am not turning on my heat. I dress in sweats at night and I have something I call a corn-warmer to help keep me warm. It is very hard corn that had been sifted and the corn sewn into a long piece of material. You put it in the microwave for about 4 minutes. It usually keeps me warm all night. (no it doesn't ever pop or burn) I plan on getting a small electric heater to help keep my electric bill down and take it from room to room. You may want to consider that.

I would say always wear socks which im sure that you know, put the heating blanket on low but only up to your chest and have a fan going that way your not hot or cold, but just right. wash the dishes with hott water, and take at least 2-3 hot showers a day. use a blow dryer in the morning for that extra boost of heat. wear gloves whenever you go out. get a space heater for work. always carry a jacket and knit gloves if the occasion arrises and wear close toed shoes.

Most of ur body heat is lost through your feet and your head. So, protect those from getting cold, and it should help a lot. Put the electric heater on long before going to bed, and turn it off wen u go to bed. tht way it is lovely and warm, and lasts long enuf. Its also dangerous to leave an electric blanket on for a long time!
Hope this helps!

Cold hands and feet are a sign of pour circulation. You can try talking a walk at least once a day. If you are looking for herbs cayenne pepper and Garlic is good. You can buy Garlic in the stores but the cayenne pepper I always take a scoop and put it in a capsule. works great.

I have the same problem. My feet and hands are always cold. The best thing to do is get plenty of exercise to help circulate, also I went to get acupuncture for something else and told them about my cold feet and hands. They stuck some needles in me and it's been a little better. Might want to try that. It doesn't hurt at all if you haven't tried it yet.

Put your electric blanket on an outlet timer.

buy those warm-ups for hands and feet. Where you rub em together and the pouch gets warm. They cost about 99 cents at walmart!

There is really no such thing as "alternative medicine." There is medicine that works, and there is medicine that doesn't work. Generally, if it works, the drug companies patent it and overcharge us for its use.

That's not to say that a lot of good medicine doesn't come from natural sources. It's just that, as soon as it's proven to work, what I said above happens.
