My whole family has allergies/asthma.I've heard all my life that moving out west(US) cures them.Is that true?
|
If it is and you could point me to some information about moving out west to cure allergies/asthma I would really appreciate it Additional Details
Maybe I wasn't specific enough, I think the states I've heard about are all high elevations and dry climate like Colorado Arizona Montana. Maybe those are considered mid-west instead of west.

It really depends on what you are allergic to, I have lived in various places in my life, California, Texas and Arizona mostly, and it seems that no matter where I go, I always end up having allergies at some point or another. Could just be that my body takes a year or too to become familiar enough with whats in the air to become allergic to it.
Asthma may be a different story though. I am currently living in the Phoenix area and the amount of dust and particulates in the air causes problems for many people. As a matter of fact according to the local news station, Phoenix has not met the EPAs minimum compliance levels for dust size particulates since 1979.
So, while there may be fewer allergens in the air which cause your particular reactions, the dust particulates may cause other asthma problems.

It depends on where you move. We have very few allergies in west texas. That's mostly because we have very few living plants.
But hey, no spring fever right?

Allergies are caused by you being sensitized to various things. That means that you must be exposed to such things before the allergy develops. Moving out West (Arizona) reduces the number of allergens in the air but doesn't totally remove them and furthermore opens the door to new allergens...cactus pollens or various other plants. You may even find new allergens there that cause more problems. I am from Pennsylvania and lived in San Diego for over a year...I had more problems in San Diego (desert like country) than in Pennsylvania. Asthma might benefit but depending on the cause.

oh please! it doesn't for everyone, at least. i had just a bit of allergies (mostly to dust) when I lived in NY, and when I moved to CA, I was suddenly allergic to everything! During the spring, I will have sneezing fits that last for over a minute. I am miserable and Benadryl is my best friend, drowsy or not! If you are allergy prone, you can develop allergies to just about anything, given time.

ive taken allergy medications forever it seems. 2 years ago i moved to arizona. i was able to go from 14 different pills a day to 4. my allergies dont act up here at all. i wish i had known this a lot sooner in life. more plusses to moving out west... not a mosquito in sight, no hurricanes, and no tornadoes. try to move near a body of water, you will have a huge appreciation for water in the summer. i live on the colorado river, i love it here. i'll try to find you some more info on the subject and add it to my answer.

You won't have the same allergies there, but believe me, you will develop new ones.

It depends on what you're allergic to. I've got a few friends that live in the mid west who can't travel east without getting ill. And then there are people (like me) who are going to sneeze a lot no matter what.

Nope... It's a wives tale. If you want to ease the symptoms of asthma
Learn to speak you mind! no matter (and especially) if it pisses people off.
Take Mullen, Cranberry, pine oil, bergamot, clary Sage or Chamomile tea's and an increase of B6 vitamin. Both are good for lungs.

I've heard that too. I don't know if it's true, but I live in the mid-west and when I took a trip to Vegas I had no problems. The minute I stepped off the plane back home it was misery with the allergies. Good luck in your search for relief!

It used to be thought that if you moved into the desert regions of SW U.S.A., you would be removed from the bombardment of allergens. So, many people moved there. But when they got there, they grew weary of the scenery. They introduced irrigation. Grass grew, trees grew, flowers grew and bloomed. Cities grew to enormous size, and pollution has become a real problem. Now, it's as bad as anywhere else.
The best place you can go to escape allergens is actually the coast. If you can live where there are fresh ocean breezes, you will be breathing cleaner air than what you find in "The West."
