Side Effects
Made me a little tired during the day at first. Took longer to kick in than I thought but lasted longer than I thought (14 hours). It will mitigate the sex drive somewhat and it is important to get a good night's sleep as another poster noted. Obviously, a medication to be respected.

Additional Thoughts
Since my anxiety is somewhat situational, I can take a half dose some days, full dose when I know I will face triggers. I had to discontinue Lorazepam gradually and still chased the dragon. I know I will with Xanax XR as well. I usually try to do a final discontinuation of something in the winter when I have the flu, since I feel so rotten anyway I don't notice the withdrawl as much. To the person taking ADHD drugs - I am a bit ADHD myself. I used to drink 14+ cups of coffee a day to self-medicate. I did not want to take classic ADHD drugs due to CNS effects such as you describe. Ask your doctor about Provigil. It will give you a stimulant effect without messing with your CNS and MVP condition. I take 200mg. a day of it and it has been a godsend for me. I take 100mg in the early AM and then 100mg. about 3 hours later. Lasts about 12 hours without feeling peeky or coming down off it hard.

Reason: I was so anxious, I couldn't even breathe Date: 18 November 2008
Side Effects
I am on many meds to control my bipolar depressive disorder- so I am always tired and have frequent physical complaints- so it could be just more icing on the cake of sleeping the day away-BUT, it has changed my life as well. I swear, before Xanax XR, I was choking at work- like being on Mt. Everest with a corssette that was too tight. Someone else commented here that we can't take it long term. Oh, that will be awful. Clonopin was my savior until it stopped working after 7 years- what's next? ECT?

Additional Thoughts
Again it gave me back my life. I also have ADHD and had taken several combinations of drugs along with the Xanax XR. I have a mitro valve prolapse and the med's for ADHD was basically speed. I had a cardiologist check out my heart and he suggested I get off the speed if I wanted to live a nice long life. I did so immediately. With the extended release Xanax it also helps to calm me enough to try to get organized and stop my racing thoughts....for the most part. Thank you Xanax XR...the other benefit was that it calmed me enough to get rid of migraines by about 95%.

Side Effects
This medication has given me back my life. I have suffered with severe ringing in my rights ear for years, and bouts with vertigo, diagnosed as Meniers Disease. For a few years I took just the regular (Non XR) does at .25 or .50mg as needed. Now with just one single does in the morning of 1.0mg, I feel great, can work all day with no anxiety, also the ringing in my ear has been greatly reduced, and I have not had a Vertigo attack again. I find I can stay off of it on weekends for a couple of days, but my symptoms return if I don't take it on weekdays.

Additional Thoughts
Xanax can cause daytime drowsyness if I don't get a good nights sleep, so I have to force myself to get to bed in time. By nature I am a night owl. I read where some people get addicted to this drug, personally I have never had a problem stopping taking it, but my body for sure is very used to it. It works very well for me, but I know it has the potential to be abused. Myself I am very carefull to take the minimum dose and never drink while taking it. Again its given me back my life.
