Uses
Trecator-Sc is used to treat tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs.

Storage
  • Store at room temperature at approximately 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.

Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

How To Use
  • Take by mouth exactly as directed, from one to three times per day for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Follow your medication label instructions.
  • Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
  • Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
  • It is critical to take Trecator-Sc and the other TB drugs until the full prescribed treatment is finished even if symptoms have disappeared.
  • Stopping the medication too early will allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
  • Refill your prescription as directed.
  • Consult your pharmacist.
  • It is recommended to take pyridoxine (vitamin B6) along with Trecator-Sc.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist about this.

Side Effects
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness or metallic taste might occur.
  • If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
  • Changing the time of the dosage may relieve some side effects.
  • Unlikely but report promptly: depression.
  • Very unlikely but report promptly: numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, seizures, shakiness, hallucinations, vision problems, yellowing of the eyes or skin, rash, mouth sores, sun sensitivity ( sunburn ), unusual bruising.
  • Diabetics should monitor more closely for low blood sugar symptoms.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Before taking Trecator-Sc, tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver disease, diabetes.
  • Limit alcohol intake since alcohol can increase the drowsiness effect of Trecator-Sc and also affect your liver.
  • Use caution when performing activities requiring alertness.
  • Trecator-Sc should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
  • Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • It is not known whether Trecator-Sc is excreted into human milk.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
  • If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double-up the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication you may use, especially cycloserine and isoniazid.
  • These drugs may be used with caution in tuberculosis patients when clearly necessary for combination treatment.
  • Medications that can increase the drowsiness effect of Trecator-Sc include: sedatives, tranquilizers, drugs for sleep, narcotic pain relievers, psychiatric medications (e.g., chlorpromazine), certain antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), muscle relaxants, anti- seizure medications.
