syn-Rx Dm S-Pack-Dm, Guaifenex-Rx Dm, Med-Rx Dm Uses Guaifenesin is an expectorant used to help clear mucous and chest congestion. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that relieves nasal congestion. This combination of medicines is used to treat symptoms due to colds, allergies, or certain upper respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, sinusitis). Storage Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of the reach of children. Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea and vomiting, fast or irregular heartbeat, seizures, or mental confusion. How To Use Take Syn-Rx Dm by mouth with a full glass of water usually every 12 hours or as directed by your doctor. Syn-Rx Dm must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew the tablets. This kit comes with different colored morning doses and evening doses. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to use Syn-Rx Dm correctly and follow all instructions carefully. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, nor take it for longer periods of time than prescribed. If stomach upset occurs, you may take this with food or milk. It is recommended you drink plenty of clear fluids (water preferred; 6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve congestion. Side Effects Nausea, headache, loss of appetite, nervousness, or dizziness, or rash may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop any of these serious side effects: blurred vision, unusually fast heartbeat, difficulty urinating (men only), trouble sleeping. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop any of these unlikely but serious side effects: chest pain, irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, convulsions. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, glaucoma, thyroid problems, enlarged prostate, seizures, any allergies you may have (especially to other cough-and-cold products). Because Syn-Rx Dm may make you dizzy, use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this product. Use cautiously. Syn-Rx Dm should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. The pseudoephedrine in this combination product passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Therefore, this product is not recommended for use by nursing mothers. Missed Dose If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially: beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol, propranolol), digoxin, stimulant medications (e.g., dextroamphetamine, methylphenidate), certain other high blood pressure medicine (e.g., guanethidine, methyldopa, reserpine), sibutramine, drugs for depression, all cough-and-cold products. Do not use Syn-Rx Dm if you have taken an MAO inhibitor (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline) within the last 14 days. The guaifenesin in this product may interfere with certain laboratory tests (e.g., uric acid). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
