Iodine is necessary for normal function of the thyroid gland. It is used to treat excessive thyroid function and to block thyroid activity.

Uses
Iodine is necessary for normal function of the thyroid gland. It is used to treat excessive thyroid function and to block thyroid activity.


Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture.
  • Do not store in the bathroom.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of overdose may include stomach pain, severe diarrhea, breathing trouble, decrease in amount of urine, unconsciousness, or unusual thirst.

How To Use
  • Take Strong Iodine by mouth as directed.
  • Dilute the amount prescribed with water or fruit juice to improve the taste.
  • Follow your doctor s instructions carefully.
  • Do not increase the dose, take it more often or continue taking this for longer than prescribed.

Side Effects
  • Stomach upset or diarrhea may occur.
  • If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, fever, joint pains, breathing trouble, swelling of the face, swelling of the throat, metallic taste, burning mouth, sore teeth and gums, head cold symptoms, enlarged thyroid.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, kidney disease (for potassium-containing products), allergies (especially to iodine).
  • Strong Iodine is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
  • Consult your doctor for details.
  • Strong Iodine passes into breast milk and has had undesirable effects on nursing infants.
  • Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Missed Dose
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
  • Do not double-up the dose to catch up.

Drug Interactions
  • Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: lithium.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
