Storage Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. The liquid and syrup forms must be given in 6 to 8 ounces of milk or juice to prevent throat irritation. Relief is usually obtained in 1 to 3 days after first dose. Side Effects Stool Softener may cause stomach ache, cramping or irritated throat (liquid and syrup forms). If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: skin rash, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements. Frequent use of laxatives can cause dehydration and loss of essential nutrients.
