Uses
Sb Docusate Sodium helps fluids to mix with the stool to keep them from becoming hard or dry. It is used to treat constipation.
Storage
- Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
Overdose
- If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
How To Use
- Swallow capsules and tablets whole with a full glass of water or juice.
- The liquid and syrup forms must be given in 6 to 8 ounces of milk or juice to prevent throat irritation.
- Relief is usually obtained in 1 to 3 days after first dose.
Side Effects
- Sb Docusate Sodium may cause stomach ache, cramping or irritated throat (liquid and syrup forms).
- If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
- Notify your doctor if you experience: skin rash, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements.
- Frequent use of laxatives can cause dehydration and loss of essential nutrients.
- Symptoms include muscle cramps, muscle weakness or dizziness.
- Maintain an adequate fluid intake while using Sb Docusate Sodium.
- If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Do not take aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor) or mineral oil while taking stool softeners.
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take over-the-counter stool softeners (or any other nonprescription medication) without obtaining your doctor s advice.
Missed Dose
- If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
- Do not "double-up the dose to catch up.
Drug Interactions
- Sb Docusate Sodium is not recommended for use with mineral oil.
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
- Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially aspirin.
