Uses
Progesterone is a female hormone. It is used to treat amenorrhea (lack of menstrual flow) and abnormal uterine bleeding. It may also be prescribed for use in the treatment of endometriosis.


Storage
  • Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light.
  • Do not store in the bathroom.


Overdose
  • If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
  • Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, and dizziness.

How To Use
  • Progesterone In Oil is given by injection into a muscle usually once a day for 6 to 8 consecutive days.
  • Take Progesterone In Oil as directed.
  • Do not skip a dose or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor.

Side Effects
  • Progesterone In Oil may cause nausea, headache, depression, itching, increased hair growth, increased sensitivity to sunlight, changes in menstrual flow, increased vaginal secretions, breast tenderness, fluid retention or pain and irritation at the injection site.
  • If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
  • Notify your doctor immediately if you develop any of these serious effects: severe headache, vomiting, dizziness, pain/swelling/warmth or redness in the lower legs (calf), trouble breathing, fainting, chest pain, vision changes, numbness in the arms or legs.
  • If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver disease, diabetes, seizure disorder, kidney disease, heart problems, asthma, depression, migraines, blood clots, miscarriage, breast cancer, any allergies.
  • Because Progesterone In Oil may increase sensitivity to sunlight, avoid prolonged sun exposure.
  • Wear a sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
  • Diabetic patients should monitor urine and blood sugar closely while using Progesterone In Oil as it can reduce glucose tolerance.
  • Progesterone injection must not be used during the first 4 months of pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Consult your doctor for more details.
  • Progesterone In Oil is excreted into breast milk.
  • Because the effects on a nursing infant are unknown, consult your doctor before you breast-feed.

Missed Dose
  • It is important to take each dose as directed.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered.
  • Do not "double-up the dose to catch up.
  • If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule.

Drug Interactions
  • Progesterone In Oil can alter the effects of other medications.
  • Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take.
  • Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
